Final Table Delayed so Neymar Jr Can Be Best Man at Wedding!

It’s certainly not unheard of for stars of the poker world to get favourable treatment at times, but putting the High Roller final table back a day to attend a wedding? Only in Brazil - and only footballing legend Neymar Jr can command that sort of respect from his fellow poker players!

The Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) started a few days ago in the luxurious WTC Sheraton in São Paulo, but few were expecting the theatrically-inclined Brazilian footballing hero to not only enter, but reach the final table of the R$7,000 (US$1,850) High Roller event… but he did, and that was a problem for the man recently returned from World Cup duty in Russia.

His love of poker hasn’t always endeared him to the football-loving fans of his club side PSG in France, but his fellow final tablists at the BSOP had no problem when Neymar explained he had a prior engagement – as best man at a friend’s wedding!

As the PokerStars Blog explained:

‘In a great act of fair play, the other eight players unanimously decided to extend the High Roller by a day, and once that player decision was made the BSOP generously offered to cover all extra expenses, including hotel rooms and flight changes.’

…Neymar will be hoping to translate his fine run into a tournament victory, the $90,000 top prize incidental to a man worth at least $90 million, according to Forbes.com this June, with ‘$73 million of that coming from his soccer salary and winnings, and $17 million of his fortune coming from lucrative endorsements with major brands’.
