First $1,000,000 Spin & Go Paid Out on PokerStars

One lucky player, playing under the online alias of ‘sss66666,’ had a very good day yesterday. A very, very good day (some would even say staggering). As luck would have it, he (or she) was one of three players registered in the very first $1,000,000 Spin & Go that kicked off on PokerStars, and proceeded to win the massive first place prize.
As most certainly know by now, Spin & Go’s are a special, lottery-like, hyper-turbo, mini-tournament format where players can win huge prizes for very small buy-ins --- if they get lucky. This particular Spin & Go was part of a December Festival promotion at PokerStars and the three players each paid only $5 to enter. It is hard to even begin to understand their shock when they realized that they would be battling it out for a cool million!
BOOM! First $1 million Spin & Go happening right now. They bought in for $5. Playing for $1.2 million. $1 million to winner!
— PokerStarsBlog (@PokerStarsBlog) January 12, 2015It took under fifteen minutes for it all to go down. Russian player ‘sss66666’ won the heads-up match against the Belgian ‘geldduvel’ and raked in the massive prize of $1,000,000. Both ‘geldduvel’ and the third place finisher, Bulgarian player ‘Nonko999,’ took home ‘consolation’ prizes of $100k each.

— PokerStarsBlog (@PokerStarsBlog) January 12, 2015This being the first time that the massive jackpot has been unlocked under the new format, PokerStars Director of Poker Communications Lee Jones reported directly from the Bahamas where the PCA 2015 is currently underway to share his thoughts.
He explained the special promotion that’s been running on PokerStars where players are able to hit the ‘magic’ Spin & Go for a small $5 investment and, although it is a very long shot, it is a shot at really huge money. Jones also jokingly said that finishing runner-up in this one was not such a bad bubble.
As one would expect, the Two Plus Two community went crazy and very soon they found out that the guy (or girl) who won the Spin & Go was, in fact, taking a shot (as funny as it may seem when talking about $5 tournaments).
Sharkscope apparently has ‘sss66666’ tracked for around 500 games with an average buy-in of $0.25, so it is completely fair to say that the Russian decided to take a shot at a game well above his usual stake level. Luck accompanies the brave, right?
Many 2+2ers were also a little pissed that the prize went to someone who basically doesn’t even play for real money, but considering the fact that Spin & Go’s are, essentially, a lottery, anyone can win and there are absolutely no rules that call for regular players to hit the jackpot.
At this point in time, PokerStars representatives were still not able to reach ‘sss66666,’ but there is no doubt that he (or she) is ecstatic – how could he (or she) not be? When sitting down to play, odds are that 'sss66666' was probably hoping to hit a x10 or x20 multiplier and instead ended up playing for the legit life-changing money.
The $1,000,000 Spin & Go promo continues, so we could see another one of these fire up in the near future.
Or not – who knows, it’s a lottery!
