It was just a matter of official confirmation, but that confirmation is now in. German George Danzer has captured the WSOP PoY title for the year 2014. Team PokerStars Pro successfully fended off his closest competitor Brandon Shack-Harris during the WSOP APAC.
Danzer cashed in total of three events during this year’s WSOP APAC but the one that really mattered was the bracelet winning one from the $5k 8-Game Mixed tournament. This basically guaranteed that the German would take home the Player of the Year title and the scenarios in which this doesn’t happen were highly unlikely to happen.
Although i enjoyed the sweat i am relieved now that the race is over. And i know Oscillator_WSOP is going to get another chance. Mad props.
— George Danzer (@trickyscarfy) October 16, 2014This crowns a tremendous year Danzer has had this year in WSOP events. His run started in Las Vegas during the summer when he triumphed in a $10k Seven Card Stud Hi / Lo and Razz events for a combined total of almost $650k and two gold bracelets. In total, he cashed in ten WSOP events this year, amassing just shy of $870k in profits.
I’m still delirious and don’t know if I will ever realize what has happened. My goal since 2005 was to win a bracelet and I’ve fought hard every year for one. Then it happened, and a week later again. From there, everything else just developed it by itself. It’s similar to golf – you just change a tiny thing in your swing and suddenly you are successful. @George Danzer
Danzer did not try to hide his excitement – and why would he? Claiming Player of the Year title is certainly an achievement that any player would proudly have by their name. Alongside that, the fact that he has achieved it by collecting three bracelets in a single year truly puts him shoulder to shoulder with some of the biggest names in the world of poker.
George Danzer’s live tournaments winnings now exceed $2 million and they are certain to grow with many more tournaments to come for the young PokerStars Pro. We will certainly see much more of Danzer in the coming months and years!
