Last couple years, poker scene has been dominated by young, talented echelon of German players. These guys are notorious for their deep understanding for the game, their calm demeanor at the tables and deadly decision making. Also, given choice, they will usually take their seats in more expensive, smaller-fields, high roller and super high roller tournaments as opposed to the big fields of smaller events on different poker tours.

Their success on the circuit quickly made their name famous, so talking about likes of Dominik Nitsche, Martin Finger, Philipp Gruissem and Fabian Quoss, to just name a few, certainly rings a bell. It is no wonder then that these players have been dominating this year’s World Series of Poker, as Nitsche announced after winning the first bracelet this year in WSOP National Championship.

These were no idle threats either, as Nitsche went on to seize his second bracelet of the summer and third of his career about one-third way into the Series. But another fellow countryman made sure he was in a good company.

George Danzer, whose live tournament winnings are now very close to eclipsing two million dollars, also managed to secure two gold bracelets this summer. The first one came from the $10k Razz championship which, although it had a small field, gathered some of the biggest names in poker. Some ten days later, Danzer seized the day in another championship event, and this time it was $10k Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo. Once again, Danzer held his own against some of the best in the industry and became only the second player this year to claim two bracelets.

His climb started back in ’09, with deep runs in PCA and EPT Grand Final in Monaco. He continued the successful career, culminating this year with two WSOP bracelets and two more very deep runs, including 5th place $10k 2-7 Triple Draw Championship and 9th place in the $10k No Limit Hold’em Six Max Championship, won by Joe Cada.

Other German representatives have not had their opportunity to shine just, but Martin Finger did have a quite deep run in $1,000 NLHE event, where he finished 17th of nearly 1,700 players. Quoss and Marvin Rettenmaier are yet to make a big score, as they have both booked only one cash each so far in the Series, but it is probably only matter of time.

There are still some twenty events to be played, so still plenty of time to catch a bracelet or two before the Main starts. And who is to say that Nitsche and Danzer are done, as they are clearly on fire and we could easily see one of them on another final table soon!
