Global Poker - Making US Online Poker Great Again!
7 years agoSponsored20 Feb
Social gaming versions of poker have been around for a while, but how about a version which not only allows you to play free money games, but also offers the chance to play for real cash? And in the USA no less? Perfectly legal all across the USA that is, not just in a couple of states!
Well, that’s exactly what Global Poker have done with their innovative and much-needed new platform – which has been a massive hit so far, with over $170,000 in cashouts since their launch at the beginning of December!
How does it work?
For those who had no idea they could be winning real money in the US, here’s how Global Poker’s clever approach to online poker works –
You can play with two currencies, Gold Coins and $weeps Cash.
- When you buy Gold Coins GP give you bonus $weeps Cash free of charge.
- Gold Coins let you play for fun, but switch to $weeps Cash and you can play for REAL MONEY!
- $weeps Cash wins can be legally cashed out in the US because they are FREE!
It sounds so simple you might ask yourself why no-one has done this before? Well, they have, but not on the scale of Global Poker, with their parent company raising $16million in funding for the highly-impressive game.
As most will know, real money poker has been struggling for legitimacy in the US for several years, but Global Poker’s use of the sweepstake-method and PayPal transactions has avoided all of these negatives – allowing players from all across the US to cash out their winnings.

Winners and…winners!
And it works, with the recent $10,000 Super Bowl Freeroll seeing player ‘tbla43’ romping to a $2,600 payday for scooping 1st place and a host of other winners finally able to play what amounts to real money poker.
“Nicely done!” was the comment from the Global Poker rep on the 2+2 forum thread they started to answer player questions, adding:
"And Mr. ZigZag. Even though it sucks being so close and end up the runner up, we hope $1,300 will make up for some of that feeling.”
A nice touch, and it’s the personal approach which makes the social gaming version of poker quite unique – the interaction between player and host mirroring the everyday activity of most people on social media.
The software itself is based on a very strong html5 version which supports browser-based play, so iPads and mobile phones, Facebook play and a host of other methods means that you’ll always have access to your games and tournaments.
What games are on offer?
The Daily Purchase Challenge $500 Freerolls are only one of many tournaments on offer on Global Poker, the Wednesday Weekly Guaranteed $2500 being a popular destination for players, as well as the daily $200 and $1500 guarantee events.
And besides the regular tournament schedule, Global Poker is also running ad hoc tournaments (such as the $10,000 Super Bowl Freerolls) and have big plans to ramp up their tournament offerings soon.
Once you add in the NLHE and PLO cash games on offer, you can see why Global Poker is starting to make its presence felt in the marketplace, and from a technical perspective it’s good to know that the developers have taken into account this rapid growth.
"We have tested our network infrastructure to handle very high traffic.” stated a GP spokesperson, adding that “it’s built so if we were to grow faster than expected, which would be great, then we can scale up quite easily.”
Which, of course, is great news – because there’s nothing worse than a site crashing and your poker plans being scuppered for the night!
Who are Global Poker?
It’s always good to know who’s behind such new ventures – especially in the world of poker – so it’s comforting to know that VGW Holdings is the company behind Global Poker.
CEO Laurence Escalante, also the main mover behind the Chumba World social gaming casino platform, founded the company in 2010 “with the vision of creating a virtual world with focus on gaming and entertainment” – and over $40million has been paid out to players through their proprietary ‘social sweepstake gaming’ technology since 2015 alone. A decent chunk of money by anyone’s standards!
Any bad news?
Of course, every new venture has its hiccups and stumbling blocks, but the good news with Global Poker is that it very rarely seems to be money issues which go wrong – which of course is always the number one worry for poker players! – the 2+2 posters who have played and won commenting positively on the payout features which sees money in their hands within 24 hours.
With small gremlins in the system being ironed out rapidly, and there’s no reason to think that Global Poker won’t be around for the long-run – and although the real money sweepstakes are only available in the USA and Canada for the moment, as the name implies the future plans are Global for this version of Poker!
