After losing more than $5 million playing online poker in 2014, Gus Hansen has stepped away from the tables at Full Tilt.

Well, he actually was out of action for quite a large chunk of time in 2014 - very little play for four or five months - and recently attempted a comeback during the Christmas holidays. His fortunes did not change and the Dane ended up losing even more.

That wasn't an especially well done comeback," Hansen stated in an interview with Pokeryhederne, a Danish poker site. "I don't think I played well. There were many factors I didn't have control of."

The Great Dane has decided to give poker a break for awhile, while he concentrates on other endeavors. One of those pursuits is investing in a bridge-dealing machine, and other interests include playing in both Bridge and Squash tournaments, one in Iceland and the other in New York. So don't expect to see Hansen's name in the Weekly High Stakes Report provided every Monday here at PokerTube.

I don't feel in a hurry to get back playing online," Hansen said. "Right now I don't have any poker plans."

With lifetime losses at Full Tilt that have surpassed $20 million, it's probably as good a time as any for the 40-year-old to look elsewhere than at a computer screen. But don't count him out for good, as Hansen will return to the poker tables. When he does, it will likely be for lower stakes.

I might have a plan to play some online in a smaller sense," Hansen added. "That could be $2/4, $5/10 Pot Limit Omaha so you don't get too rusty."

You can expect to see Hansen at the live tables at the EPT Grand Final in Monaco from April 29-May 8, as well as in Las Vegas at the WSOP in June and July. His live tournament winnings are over $11 million, good for 20th place on the all-time list, according to the Hendon Mob live poker database.
