When Jessica Dawley took down the WSOP Ladies Event bracelet and $130k, the cynics might have expected a certain bitchiness from her fellow female players, but not a bit of it – congratulations and love were the order of the day…

Dawley’s epic victory over a field of 696 entrants left her almost dumbstruck, telling reporters ''I can't even put into words… it has not hit me yet," after defeating Jill Pike heads-up.

She eventually found a way to describe her feelings, explaining:

"I kept picturing myself as I was sitting here, I kept looking at these boxes of everyone in their bracelet photos, and I honestly kept trying to get my head straight with that. Looking at those pictures, I was like: 'I just really hope that that's me at the end of the day'. I'm just really happy. It's been a grind for the past ten years so I'm happy to have something to kind of commemorate that."

Her play certainly had the other women in the $1k buy-in event under serious pressure, Danielle ‘dmoongirl’ Andersen tweeting about Dawley’s prowess on her way to the final table…

…and then falling victim to her own fears as Dawley crushed her hopes of a gold bracelet in a horrible cooler deep in the event…

…and then devoured the rest of the final table to scoop the entire thing…

…with congratulations coming from all corners of the poker community, female and male alike…

With the likes of Maria Konnikova, Maria Ho, Maria Lampropoulos and many other women now producing consistently excellent results in mixed field events, it probably won’t be long before Dawley joins them with another big win – and with the love shown for her yesterday that can’t be a bad thing for poker!
