They say that ‘good guys never win’ but Kenny Hallaert refuted that once again by taking down the $1,150 NLH Turbo Shot Clock event at the Aussie Millions this week for A$59,535 (US$47,463) to land the championship ring he’d just missed out the previous day.

The Belgian former WSOP November Niner, tournament director and equal parts live and online winner with $4million+ in lifetime earnings in each discipline, defeated Poland’s Dzmitry Urbanovich heads-up to finish his Australian adventure on a high, "Four cashes with three final tables; a seventh place and a second place yesterday”, how he described his phenomenal run at the Crown Casino in Melbourne.

That final table had come about after the original 242 entries had been whittled down to just ten, all fighting for a share of the A$248,050 prize pool –six Aussies mixed in with the likes of Matt Affleck, brother of the Hollywood filmstar Ben, and Norway’s Jon Kristian Kyte.

Five of the local challengers hit the rail early, with Affleck joining them when he busted in 5th – not quite saving his trip but still adding to his $2.5million+ earnings…

When the Australian hopes ended with Howearth’s departure in 4th we were left with a trio of excellent players, the in-form Kyte up against Poland’s long-time number 1 Urbanovich and the evergreen Hallaert – the latter proving his ‘turbo shot clock’ skills by finishing runner-up the day before in the $2500 version of the event.

It wasn’t to be for Kyte and Urbanovich was also unable to withstand the Belgian’s pressure at the table, the victor telling PokerNews reporters afterwards:

"It’s been a really great Aussie Millions for me; apart from the Main Event where I busted within the first orbit!"

One of the most liked and respected pros on the world’s various tours Hallaert explained:

“I’m very happy to finally have a win. I’ve come close multiple times, and have had great scores. But on my Hendon Mob you have to dig deep to find the last win. Winning a tournament always feels good, whether it’s a big one or one of the side events that they have here. It always feels great."
