Las Vegas WSOP 2014 – What, where, when and why?

That time is almost upon us! The World Series 2014! I can’t wait! So here’s my own personal little guide to Las Vegas. This will be my 5^th trip to Vegas and I still haven’t seen and done everything the list of things to do there is endless!

If you’ve not yet sorted your accommodation and your wanting to be close to the Rio if your playing then a popular place for a longer stay with poker places the past few years has been The Palms Place.

There is no casino here, its nice and peaceful with its own gym and pool, and if you can get a view of the stip then its amazing. Check out this photo I took last year from Sams balcony there of the view!!

Splurge

If your going for a holiday and after abit of luxury I cant recommend the Aria enough. At the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, ARIA Resort & Casino is the crowned jewel of CityCenter, a sleek and modern destination with upscale shopping, dining, entertainment and art venues.

The pools, gym and spa give a perfect setting and their room service is excellent! Its where I will be stopping this year and have every time I love it, If you don’t stop there then be sure to head over still and visit the Aria buffet! This is a life saver if your hungover!!

Getting Around

If you’re in Vegas to play the series your most likely going to rent a car, I know Sam does this every year. It makes life much easier! How ever if you are staying on the strip taxis really aren’t expensive and always readily available at most hotel entrances. How ever, If you have been to see a show, or a concert, bear in mind the hotel you’ve been at will have a huge taxi queue, I have once waiting in the taxi queue at Caesars for half an hour, and trust me in that heat it is not nice!

If you want to jump the queue you can always split a limo with your friends if you’re feeling flush! They are normally about $70 but it all depends on the limo and driver. If there’s one thing that I would say you should get with your friends and do though its to get a party bus!! We did this twice last year after 2 pool parties and they were the best fun ever!

Shows

Now all the shows in Las Vegas are amazing, you cant really go wrong, the cirque du soleil shows are an absolute must if you have never seen one before.

However, if theres only one show your going to see in Vegas it HAS TO be Absinthe at Caesars Palace. It has everything! Acrobats, Singing and comedy. Its so funny, and its such a great atmosphere to have a drink along to unlike some of the other shows.

Where to eat?

Lets start off with the real luxury places where you may want to go as a treat. These are my favourites:

• Nobu Japanese at Caesars Palace

• Yellowtail Japanese at Bellagio

• Jean George Steak House at Aria

• SW Steak House at Wynn

These are my favourite restaurants for somewhere to eat that’s a little more casua

• Joes at Caesars Forum Shops

• Todd English’s Olives at Bellagio

• The Aria Buffet

By Day

If you’re after something to do in the day then the pool parties are a must!! Especially at the weekends, they usual have big name DJs on over a weekend, which are brilliant to go see. My favourites are Wet Republic and Day light.

If you want to get away from the strip and do something really different then Lake Mead is for you!! Its such a fun day.

You can rent out boats, Jets Skis and all sorts of fun inflatables! Its nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the strip and it’s a refreshing day out.

By Night

Obviously if you have a night off from poker there is only one thing in Las Vegas to do! That’s hit the casinos, bars and clubs! My favourite clubs change every year, in 2012 they were Haze and Marquee, but last year my favourites we 1OAK and XS. Its always a great night out if you go somewhere that has a special guest on or famous DJ. You can’t really go wrong then!

Poker

So the tournament that’s on every ones lips is fast approaching, The One Drop, this is a 3 day event running 29^th June – 1^st July. I can’t wait, Sam is playing and has paid his entry fee. Lets keep our fingers crossed for winning that bracelet this time!! :)

Other than that Everest are running a promotion, which means you are given the chance to get a 10% share of all Sams winnings from the 2014 WSOP (excluding the one drop).

Sam is aiming to get his first ever bracelet and will be playing from 27^th May – 14^th July and plans to play up to 20-30 events.
