Live Events Registration No Longer Available for Some PokerStars Players

Some of the PokerStars fans will be disappointed to hear that a recent policy change will mean that they’re no longer able to buy-in directly into the live events using the software.

Coming as a result of some questions that the Live Events Team got on the 2+2 poker forum, the announcement mentions that those affected are registered as users on the certain localized version of PokerStars. Those using the .com or the .eu version of the website can rest easy, as they still have access to the live events. The same can be said about the users registered on localized websites that are not among those mentioned by PokerStars.

The countries where the PokerStars website no longer allows players to use existing funds and accounts to join live events include United Kingdom (.uk), Estonia (.ee), Denmark (.dk), Bulgaria (.bg) and Belgium (.be). The interdiction is only on the accounts registered on those websites, not on the players that are based in those countries.

The result is that they can register on the EU/International versions of PokerStars and they should still be able to join live events. The downside is that the move would require them to withdraw funds from one account in order to fund the new one. Another option would be to create a second account, to use for live events.

One of the biggest online poker rooms you can sign-up with today, PokerStars often has more than 200,000 poker players online at the same time. They have a lot of things going for them, starting with their high quality poker room software and continuing with their customer support, popularity and the safety they offer their players.

They also give their players the chance to qualify for various types of live tournaments, while using funds from their accounts (with limits, as you can see from this article). Some of the live events they offer access to include PCA (PokerStars Caribbean Adventure), EPT (European Poker Tour) and quite a few others.

For a while now, PokerStars has been improving its support and cooperation with official organizations dealing with gambling regulation in each country and this recent move seems to be in conjecture with these recent efforts.

However, coming amidst numerous recent unpopular changes, including introduction of Spin & Go’s and the infamous rake increase, this decision by PokerStars has been met with more criticism than it would have been under different circumstances.

The ever-changing landscape of the poker world has certainly seen some big modifications during the last couple of months (and not only with regards to PokerStars), many of them not to players’ liking, but for the most part there isn’t much that can be done about them.
