Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has fired an angry tweet at the PokerNews team over what he thinks is an unfairly negative review of his suitability for entry into the Poker Hall of Fame.

Just like Phil Hellmuth, Matusow faces a constant barrage of abuse on social media over his poker playing ability. No wonder he's a little sensitive.

PokerNews went through this year’s Hall of Fame candidates and gave a little opinion on each of them as to how suitable they were.

This is what it had to say on Mike Matusow:

Case For: "The Mouth" has four WSOP bracelets, reached the Main Event final table twice, and was considered one of the top PLO/8 players in the world in the 2000s.
Case Against: Most no longer consider Matusow one of the top players in the game, and haven't for quite some time. He hasn't won a bracelet since 2013 and admittedly has gone broke numerous times.
It’s definitely a bit harsh to be marking him down for going broke over the years. The reasons are well documented and don’t need to be revisited. And also, we are sure that there are more than a few of the current members who have gone broke and kept it quiet.

Even Phil Ivey went broke several times in the early years. This isn’t a reason to downvote Mike Matusow.

As for the debate on how strong a player he is right now, we will leave that to the social media crowd. Enough has been said, and it’s impossible to quantify, anyway.

He still has close to $10 million in live tournament winnings and was last seen playing in the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice event with only five players remaining.

Does Mike Matusow Deserve a Spot in the Poker Hall of Fame

Our opinion is that Mike Matusow has given more than enough to the game to deserve a place in the Poker Hall of Fame. His four WSOP bracelets won between 1999 and 2013 made him a member of a very exclusive club, regardless of where he stands in the pecking order today.

Also, his podcast The Mouthpiece is a great show where he gives back to the poker community for little to no reward. For us, it’s a definite thumbs up.
