Olivier Busquet Triumphs in Barcelona – EPT Super High Roller Title

When a tournament has a buy-in of €50,000, you don’t expect to see just anybody playing it. That is why Super High Roller in Barcelona attracted only 58 players, but of those 58, you could hardly find one whose name does not sound familiar. That’s a reason more for Oliver Busquet to be proud of his victory, aside from €896,434 he pocketed.
By the time Busquet got to play heads up with Daniel Colman, fresh from the victory in the Big One for One Drop, he had to go through Vladimir Tryanovskiy, who finished in third, Scott Seiver, Sam Trickett, Sven Reichardt, Morten Klein, Dan Shak and Mustapha Kanit.
Busquet-Colman duo was able to nearly single handedly clear the air at the final table, taking turns in sending players to the rail and growing their own stacks. The interesting fact is that Busquet was on a brink of elimination when his Ace-Deuce ran into pocket Kings of Sven Reichardt. German player had Olivier in jail after flopping Kings Full of Eights, but the American caught a runner-runner miracle to stay alive and win the pot.
Tune into the stream & u will see one of the sickest hands ever.

Olivier stated in his interview for PokerStars later that (naturally) he knew how lucky he got in that hand, but these types of situations are simply something that has to go your way to win a tournament. This one is, admittedly, a bit extreme, but that’s why we love and hate poker. When Colman and Busquet finally reached the heads up, it did not take them long to agree about splitting the money, leaving €30,000 on the side to play with. One would think that would lead to quick resolution, but this was not the case. They still continued to battle very seriously and only after a grueling battle Colman ran out of chips. He still walked away with €843,066 for another great tournament performance.
The 100th EPT event in Barcelona continues tomorrow with the €5,300 Main Event and we will be bringing you regular updates from the green felt from that one, together with tweets from players and anything else we can find to make it as interesting as possible for all of us not fortunate enough to be there.
