Phil Hellmuth Brags About Meeting With Tiger Woods

Phill Hellmuth is a lot of things, but modest and humble are probably not the first things that come into one's mind when thinking about the Poker Brat. In fact, Hellmuth is always the first one to let you know about his exploits both on and off the poker table.

Recently, Hellmuth ran into Tiger Woods at a high-end restaurant in Malibu and was quick to let his followers on Twitter know about his run-in.

The Interaction

Hellmuth was enjoying some Japanese cuisine at Nobu in Malibu when he ran into one of the best golfers in the history of the sport. In classic Hellmuth fashion, he teased him about having one more bracelet than Woods has major victories.

Just ran into @TigerWoods Nobu Malibu: told him I had to tease him! He said OK. Then showed him my 16th @WSOP bracelet (he has 15 Majors), of course his accomplishment is bigger, but we tease each other HARD. He loved it, “Proud of you Phil, I knew you could do it.” Made my day!!

Despite golf and poker being vastly different games, having two pillars of their respective communities meet up is something that does not happen often. When it does, people are sure to document it.

What’s more, Hellmuth and Woods have a similar story when it comes to climbing the ranks in their industries.

A Tale Of Two Sports

Hellmuth and Woods are eerily similar in how they rose up in their sports, and their meeting at Nobu makes one question whether it was fate that brought the two together there.

Hellmuth was the youngest player to win the World Series of Poker Main Event at the young age of 24 in 1989. Woods was the same age when he became the youngest golfer to complete the career grand slam with his 1997 Master, 1999 PGA Championship, 2000 U.S. Open and 2000 Open Championship.

Whereas Hellmuth has 16 World Series of Poker bracelets in his trophy room putting him first on the all-time bracelet list, Woods has 15 major victories putting him second on the list behind Jack Nicklaus’ 18.

Woods has amassed a total of 81 PGA Tour wins which is good for second all-time. Hellmuth has cashed in 181 World Series of Poker events which puts him seventh on the all-time money list for the WSOP. Just like Woods had a recent comeback with his 2019 PGA tour win, Hellmuth won his most recent bracelet last fall.

Brag, Brag, Brag

Lately it seems like Hellmuth is bragging more often than usual. Last week he was sure to let everyone know that a film about his life was in the works over a decade ago with some of the best-looking actors in the industry as potential actors.

Hellmuth claimed that in 2004 Ashton Kutcher was set to play him, and later in 2007 Hayden Christensen was the one missing part before greenlighting the film that was going to be called The Madison Kid.

Of course some of his colleagues poked fun at Hellmuth’s claims, like Daniel Negreanu and Chris Moneymaker.

If there’s one thing about Phil it’s that he is going to let his fans and followers know when something great happens to him. You can’t just call anyone the Poker Brat for no reason.
