The commercial success of Molly's Game has apparently opened the eyes of Hollywood producers as the next gambling story headed for the silver screen will tell the tale of the edge sorting fiasco of Phil Ivey and his casino partner, Cheung Yin Sun.
While poker fans might like Ivey's involvement to be the focus of the film, it will instead be centered around Cheung Yin Sun, the alleged mastermind behind edge sorting that saw her and Phil win tens of millions of dollars, only to be dealt losing hands in courtrooms both stateside and in London.
Titled “The Baccarat Queen,” the film is being developed by Ivanhoe Pictures in conjunction with Sharp Independent Pictures. Ivanhoe President John Penotti told Variety that the movie will be an "exciting, high-stakes tale of cunning and revenge.”
The revenge part Penotti is alluding to might be the Borgata Casino in New Jersey and the Crockford's Casino in England eventually winning their cases against Ivey and Yin Sun. Or perhaps revenge comes in the form of Ivey emptying his New Jersey bank accounts and forcing Borgata to go after his funds in Nevada.
