Players near and far will descend on the Grosvenor Casino in London from February 23-26 for the first Unibet Open poker tour of 2017.

Starting its 11th season, this will be the sixth time that the Unibet Open makes a London tour stop and it promises to be an exciting time for all with world-class tournaments and fabulous parties on the agenda for the next four days. The featured Main Event is set as a £990 NLHE Freezeout with Day 1A kicking off on Feb. 23. Several big name pros have already confirmed their participation at 'The Vic' this weekend.

The Players

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom will be there, as will a number of newly signed Unibet ambassadors such as 2013 Irish Open winner Ian Simpson, David Lappin, and Dara O’Kearney. The latter three inked sponsorship deals in the nick of time to wear Unibet patches for 2017 Unibet Open London.

Those poker stars will be seated at the Main Event among roughly 200 players who qualified online at Unibet Poker. The prize packages won were each worth €2,000 and include the ME entry fee, luxurious accommodations at the Hilton Metropole, and travel expenses.

A Simple Goal

Organizers of Unibet Open 2017 have a simple philosophy when it comes to setting goals for the event - to make it an awesome and enjoyable experience for players of every skill level. Unibet has done much to attract more recreational players to poker in recent years, while at the same time not forgetting the more skilled and pro players who call Unibet their online poker home.

Take a look at the accompanying video to see for yourself. Casual players are welcomed with open arms at Unibet Poker - for both online play and live events.

Other Events and Parties

In addition to the Main Event, players can choose among a £2,020 High Roller, £110 NLHE Freezeout, £165 Turbo Bounty, and a £330 Deepstack. £110 live satellites to the Main Event have been running since Feb. 20 and will continue through the 23rd.

A welcome party will be held for Unibet Open London players on Thursday, Feb. 23 beginning at 20:00 at Grand Union Bar Paddington. Another party is scheduled for The Loop Bar on Saturday evening, the 25th. If you happen to make the Main Event final table set for Sunday the 26th, don't stay at that party too long! Get proper rest for that exciting final table action.

History of Unibet Open London

Last year, David Shallow outplayed 418 entries to win the 2016 Unibet Open London Main Event for £62,000. Previous winners include Thanh Doan (£187,000) in 2009, Paul Valkenburg (£109,550) the following year, Pratik Ghatge (£85,050) in 2012, and Iaron Lightbourne (£70,000) in 2014.

The buy-ins have decreased almost every year the event has been held in London from the £2,750 in 2009. This year's buy-in of £990 is a slight increase from £825 last year. The lower entry fees allow rec players to take a seat and rub elbows with top pros.

The 2017 Unibet Open London will be streamed live on Twitch with commentary from David Vanderheyden and Marc Convey for those who can't attend but want to be a part of the action.
