Spanish Cop Caught Using Bust Money for Gambling

A Spanish cop has been busted for using drug money seized during an operation for gambling. Last month, the officer was sentenced to five months in prison plus 10 months suspension from public office, although it’s hard to imagine he will ever resume a career in law enforcement.

In the summer of 2020, the officer was a part of an anti narcotics raid that saw large amounts of cash and cannabis seized and he apparently fell victim to temptation and helped himself to €9,000 (US$9,795).

Eight hours after the operation ended, the cop heard straight to a casino and got stuck into the roulette tables. CCTV evidence later showed that he left the gaming floor empty-handed.

Sometime later, he was asked to present the confiscated cash and drugs but only logged in the cannabis stash, leading his superiors to start an investigation.

At his trial, the prosecutors demanded a two-year sentence but eventually settled for a five-month suspended term on condition that the money was paid back promptly.
