Social media personality SteveWillDolt has admitted to gambling on the recent Oceangate submarine tragedy in which five people lost their lives.

The CEO and founder of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush, British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman all died soon after leaving port on June 18, 2023.

Distasteful

SteveWillDolt, real name Stephen Deleonardis, is known for his gambling exploits but nobody expected him to join in on the betting frenzy that occurred while rescuers were searching for the stricken vessel.

As millions of people around the world followed the rescue mission, thousands of gamblers were placing bets on whether the five would make it safely back to shore.

The market on betting site Polymarket stipulated:

"For the purposes of this market, the vessel need not have been rescued or physically recovered to be considered ‘found'.

"If pieces are located, but not the cabin which contains the vessel’s passengers, that will not suffice for this market to resolve to ‘Yes'.”

Polymarket is known for its wacky markets that stray into the area of poor taste. They currently run one on whether a nuclear bomb will be dropped in 2023 and also on the outcome of the recent Wagner coup attempt in Russia.

Earlier this year, Deleonardis had a betting spree in Las Vegas where hooked up with UFC boss Dana White and played some blackjack after dusting $10,000 on slot machines. Even White was shocked at how quickly he could burn through his roll.
