It’s going from strength to strength, and this summer sees the 6th edition of the hugely-popular Goliath returning to the Coventry Grosvenor Casino - with the £250,000 Guaranteed Goliath Main Event headlining 11 days of exciting action in what is truly an amateur-focussed event.
Last year saw Londoner Vamshi Vandanapu take down the £62,750 top prize ahead of 5231 other hopefuls in the premier deepstack event of the season, a record-breaking turnout which made it the biggest live poker tournament in Europe.

Coventry’s Ricoh Arena is where this year’s masses will be headed for the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour’s biggie - the tour in its 11th year and offering a massive £1.7million in guarantees across its many events, culminating in the tour’s Grand Final at The Poker Room in the iconic London Vic, home to notables such as Victoria Coren.
The Goliath is so big nowadays that the organizers have set aside seven (7!) different day1 flights, the £100 + 20 buy-in likely to continue the growth which saw an extra 1000 players appearing last year.
The truly amateur aspect of the festival was shown when IT consultant Vandanapu was joined on the winner’s rostrum by a bartender, a student, a new father and Luke Winsley, the only full-time poker pro to make the final table!
Online satellites on Grosvenor.com will provide a chunk of the competitors, and the wide array of side events will ensure that should players bust-out of the ‘deep-stack experience’, they’ll have plenty of reason to hang around.
The Redtooth Tag Team event is likely to be a big draw, as is the 2-day Super High Roller with a manageable £330 buy-in, while PLO, 4/5/6 Omaha and 8-game tournaments help to fill in all the gaps.

The event will run from July 27 to August 6, and given last year’s huge entry the organizers are urging people to get registered as early as possible – it’s going to be Goliath!
