PokerNews founder and crypto-businessman Antanas Guoga, commonly known as Tony G, is set to make a return to poker after a long spell of inactivity.

After transitioning from poker to Lithuanian politics in 2014, he made no public poker appearances for quite some time. He was, for some time, a member of the European parliament- however, he failed to be re-elected for this position in 2019. He became a member of the Lithuanian parliament in November of last year.

During this time period, Guoga also dedicated a considerable amount of time to the rapidly expanding cryptocurrency market. He is a blockchain expert, a founding shareholder of CryptoNews, and a heavy investor in virtual currencies such as Bitcoin.

His business and investment ventures have, over the years, amassed him a fortune of around $36 million- making him one of the richest poker players in the world.

The owner of Cypherphunk did make a couple of appearances in the high-roller scene in 2017 and 2019, winning over $2 million in cashes- but overall his presence in the poker industry, in recent years, seems to have been relatively low compared to the other areas in which he operates.

All of that, it would seem, is about to change. The Lithuanian philanthropist took to Twitter to inform fans of his success with his recent saltwater cleanse and to announce his return to the felt.

The events Guoga appears to be referring to are the Super High-Roller Bowl at the Merit Royal in Cyprus (where he already won two events), the WSOP Circuit event at King’s in Rozvadov, and possibly the upcoming WSOP in Vegas.

Exciting news for any fans of his famously brash and entertaining style of play. His appearances on various live streams in 2017-2019 showed us all that he can still pull some high-pressure trash talk out of the bag if he so pleases- so here’s hoping he can bring the same energy to the upcoming events and create some magic at the table. His two wins at SHRB Europe showed us that he definitely can still play poker.

Between crypto, politics, poker, and reported alpaca rearing, it begs the question- is there anything Tony G cannot do? The man even has a line of non-fungible tokens based on his better know catchphrases, such as: “I played it like a set”, “Ace from space” and his infamously devastating line “on your bike”

This year could shape up to be a real return to form for the poker community- as the world seems to be opening up more and more with each passing day. If everything goes to plan- high-stakes cards fans could be in for some great content this year.
