Day 1B of the anniversary 30th Edition of Unibet Open in London was concluded yesterday. Total of 72 survivors combines with 68 of those who progressed from the Day 1A to create a field of 140 hopefuls who will continue to battle it out for the top prize of £70,000.

The guarantee for this special tournament edition was set to £250,000, but this number was easily shattered as 399 total runners created a prize pool of £319,200. This means that 45 players will get paid the minimum amount of £1,800, but there is a long way ahead of them before anyone can breathe a sigh of relief.

Some more familiar faces took it to the felt yesterday, most notably Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom, who’s also took the seat in the Golden Cash Game leading up to the tournament, Unibet Ambassadors Paul Valkenburg and Dan Glimne as well as the Unibet Open Cannes winner Quentin Lecomte. None of them made it through to Day 2 unfortunately.

On the completely opposite side of the specter is Irish Open organizer Stephen McLean who finished the Day 1B chip leader and his stack of 309,200 gives him an overall second position on the leaderboard behind the Day 1A chip leader Nathan Dippie.

Others who made it through after ten full levels of play include Tomasz Kozub, Mike ‘Da Bookie’ Hill and Martin Wendt.

So what can we expect to see today? One thing is for sure, it will be a long day at the tables, as the plan is to play all the way down to the final table. With 131 players to go before that happens, it could really be exciting but very grueling day of poker for everybody involved: players, tournament staff and the energetic Unibet blogger Danafish!

However, at the end of this long journey, big prizes await those who can forget about physical tiredness and maintain their mental focus on the game. First, making it to the money, then making it to the final table and then rest – and finally, come back tomorrow to win! It’s a simple enough plan, if proper execution is implemented.

The important part is that the Unibet Open in London successfully surpassed the expectations and those making it to the final table will not regret coming to the UK capital. Even those who fall short will still have had an opportunity to be a part of this big festival of poker and for some this even may be a reward enough (although bringing home some cash will, of course, amplify the experience).
