Weekly High Stakes Report â Galfond and Blom Win Six Figures

After a couple of relatively calm weeks, the fireworks returned at the online high stakes tables, with action taking place almost every day for the past week.
Sunday was marked by the six-figure wins of 'Trueteller' and a player whom we haven't heard from a lot lately, Alex 'joiso' Kostritsyn. The Germanâs profit of $112k came from an encounter with French pro Rui Cao, according to HighStakesDB. Although it was a short match, things went âTruetellerâsâ way, decimating Rui Caoâs earlier profit.
As for Kostritsyn, the Russian pro continued his great run at PokerStars. While the room and the games played were different, the player donating money for âjoisoâsâ cause was again Rui Cao. It was a bad day for Cao, as Kostritsyn ended with a profit of nearly $103k when all was said and done.
Mikael âpunting-peddlerâ Thuritz finished the day in the black as well, walking away with $87,000 after having a good run in 8-game heads-up matches against Phil âPolarizingâ Ivey.
Two big winners in the Monday games were Ben âSauce123â Sulsky and âCarlooo13,' who both padded their rolls with six-figure amounts. âSauce123â earned the majority of his profit playing against âRavenswood13â on PokerStars, wrapping it up at $126k after taking about $20k from âflong78.'
HighStakesDB reported that âCarlooo13â finished the day with about $109k to his name. That's the same player who plays as âRavenswood13â on PokerStars, so it wasnât that good (or bad) of a day for him when tallying numbers from both sites. âCarlooo13â took on Phil Ivey heads-up at the mixed games tables and things once again went south for âPolarizing.'
The following day saw not one but two players break the $200k profit mark. The first, âbbvisbadforme,' walked away $268k richer after a long HU session against Phil âOMGClayAikenâ Galfond.
Viktor âIsildur1â Blom took on Rui âPepperoniFâ Cao heads-up on PokerStars and after about three hours of play at the 2-7 TD tabes, Blom was looking at a $213k profit, while the week continued going downhill for Cao. âCarlooo13â continued his stay in profitville as well, adding another $69k to his roll.
Although Thursday wasnât much of a day for Galfond, he bounced back quickly and Friday the 13th did not bring any bad luck his way. In fact, he ended the day with $160k to his name. Galfond took on the German pro âSanIkerâ for several Triple Draw sessions and walked away with his head held high.
Cort âthecortsterâ Kibler-Melby was second on the winnersâ leaderboard, finishing $130k to the good. About half of that profit came from âIsildur1,' while the other half was courtesy of âTrueteller.'
Phil Galfond proved that starting off on a bad note does not have to really mean anything in poker. Despite his initial loss to Viktor Blom, he bounced back and on Saturday he booked a profit in excess of $300k. About half of his $318k win came from Alexander âPostFlopActionâ Kostritsyn, while the rest was donated by Blom.
However, that did not hurt âIsildur1â too much, as he still ended the day well on a high note, booking nearly $162k in earnings. It turned out that the PokerStars tables were much kinder to the Swede, as he won at both 2-7 and PLO.
The tables turned once again on Phil âOMGClayAikenâ Galfond yesterday, as he lost a lot of his profit from the previous sessions to Alex âPostFlopActionâ Kostritsyn. It was a payback of sorts for the Russian, who dropped quite a sum to Galfond last week. This time around it was his time to shine, as he won all of it back and then some, ending up $281k ahead.
There were no other six-figure winners yesterday, but âflong78â and Alex âBiatchPeopleâ Luneau both profited in excess of $70k.
Let there be profit
After an exciting week of action, it is time to look at the final tally. Although there was a lot of back and forth and many big pots exchanged hands, there werenât any huge winners.
Phil âOMGClayAikenâ Galfond finished the week $230k to the good. That number could have been much bigger if some sessions went his way, but it could have been smaller as well, so he will probably have no complaints about a decent six-figure profit.
Ben 'Sauce123' Sulsky ended up with a profit of close to $163k.
German pro 'Trueteller' also finished the week in six-figure territory, adding 160k to his roll, while Viktor âIsildur1â Blom finished on a high note too, up $149k.
On the other side of the ledger, where players never really want to find themselves, was first and foremost Rui Cao. The French pro dropped the hefty amount of $363k at the tables across the sites and he was the biggest loser for the week.
Phil Ivey did not find the way back into profit and dropped another $196,000. As for Alex Kostritsyn, after having a bumpy seven-day stretch he ended in the red, even though the loss of $87k can hardly be considered big at these stakes.
It seems that Gus âbroksiâ Hansen got tired of bridge and returned to the tables last week on PokerStars. Although there was no significant movement in his bankroll so far, Gus has been very active, so next weekâs report should be a fun one.
