Rudy Gavaldon, a WSOP bracelet winner from this summer, is back behind bars after breaking his bail conditions. The Michigan native is waiting for his day in court after being charged with attempting to murder his wife, but he tested positive for opiates on August 1, 2023 and will now have to sit out the wait in his cell.

Horrific Alleged Crime

Gavaldon was arrested at the scene of the crime in Traverse City, Michigan at 12.05 am on July 30, 2022. Police arrived to find his wife Lara Gavaldon in a critical condition while he wandered in the street holding their child.

The 28-year-old was taken to a local hospital before being med-evaced with life-threatening injuries to Grand Rapids Hospital.

After lengthy treatment, she has mostly recovered but has long-term vision impairment.

Incredibly, Gavalodon was released on bail in August 2022, after being charged with attempted murder.

On June 26, 2023, Gavaldon won Online Event #3: $500 NL Hold'em Turbo 6-Max under the screenname “Flyheim86” and collected a $20,193 prize, along with his first bracelet.

Six days prior, Gavaldon came close to winning a WSOP Circuit ring after finishing in third place in a NL PKO event.

PokerNews reported that in 2011, Gavaldon went to prison on charges of “larceny in a building and third-degree home invasion, for which he was sentenced to 11 months in jail and 36 months of probation.”

He will now remain at Grand Traverse County Correctional Facility until January 9, 2024, when his jury trial begins.
