Recreational players to benefit most from revamp

A recent blog post at Full Tilt announced that the poker room will undergo a transition in coming weeks, steering away from industry norms and heading in a direction described as "fundamentally different from anything you’ve seen before."

While the full extent of those changes were not yet revealed, the site's Managing Director, Dominic Mansour, did admit that rake increases are part of the plan. Those affected in the rake restructuring include micro stakes players up to $0.05/$0.10, as well as higher stakes players at the $5/$10 and $10/$20 levels. Players who typically enter action somewhere in between those stakes can count on rake remaining the same as is currently.

Rake increases are normally met with disdain from players, but Mansour indicated that the entire Full Tilt rewards program has been reinvented in an effort to make it "attractive to all players, not just those that play the most." Grinders, of course, don't like to hear those words, and have to come to terms with the fact that the industry continues to trend in favor of recreational players.

Mansour cites reasons why casual players must be catered to. Basically, their numbers have been shrinking and the skill gap between regs and recs has widened considerably. Recreational players who lose money too fast are often not quick to return to the felt - if at all. As a result, Full Tilt aims to modify its VIP program, making an effort toward "improving the poker-playing experience and in turn increasing player loyalty."

In addition to a restructured loyalty program, Full Tilt will also give the Ring Game lobby a new look. The planned changes to the lobby are made with an eye toward fairness to all players - regardless of skill level - and whether or not players log on via desktop computer, tablet, or a mobile device.

The upcoming modifications at Full Tilt were not made on a whim, Mansour insisted. Detailed analyses of the industry and Full Tilt brand were undertaken prior to making the decision to restructure. Full Tilt hopes to "make online poker a better place" with the revamped loyalty program and lobby.

Long term growth is the site's ultimate goal. Full Tilt honchos believe that growth can best be accomplished by being fair and open. And by making the game of poker fun again. Precise details regarding the changes will be divulged shortly and in due course.
