Online gaming operators in the state of New Jersey are likely to be smiling after the state saw an increase in its online gaming revenue in January. A total of $11.6 million in revenues was collected in the first month of 2015, which was higher than the previous month as well as the previous January.

The monthly revenue was 8 per cent higher than the revenue collected in December and 22 per cent higher than revenues collected in January last year.

Revenue from the states online poker industry was both good and bad depending on the context one views it in. The $2.3 million in online poker revenue recorded for January was higher than the amount recorded in December, but a third lower than the revenue recorded last January.

While New Jersey’s online poker revenue has been relatively unstable over the best part of a year, there is a possibility that they may become more stable as the market becomes more established.

Two online gaming companies to operate in the state – Tropicana and Golden Nugget – both experienced massive year-on-year increases in their revenues as their networks became more established throughout 2014.

However, it is possible that revenues for online poker could increase should PokerStars be granted a licence to operate an online poker service in New Jersey sometime this year.

The lack of PokerStars’ presence in the state’s online poker market has been controversial, with some figures and state Senators having accused New Jersey’s Government of blocking or delaying the company’s entrance in the state.

According to PokerScout, the WSOP/888 joint network is the biggest in New Jersey in terms of average player traffic. The network currently has a seven day player average of 220. Party Borgata is the second largest network in the state with a seven day average of 140 players, according to the site.
