OnGame’s poker operations will be switching from the US$ to the next week, according to a leading Russian poker website. The change is expected to come into effect on September 15th and reflects “the decision of more and more European poker rooms to join the OnGame network”.

Pokeroff.ru first reported the decision - apparently from information leaked by employees of RedKings, one of OnGame’s poker skin’s – stating that the change from $ to exclusively will only affect the poker side of the gaming network, with sports betting and casino games being unaffected. They claim that ‘letters’ outlining the changes will soon be delivered to players registered with the sites affected.

The main reasons given by Pokeroff for the change in currency were “the addition of new rooms, as well as the possible future merger with ‘The Hive’ network.” OnGame and The Hive are both now owned by NYX Gaming, which invests in entering new regulated markets and improved ‘mobile’ poker operations.

It is thought that more poker rooms will be joining OnGame in the near future as NYX Gaming attempt to turn around a reported $3million deficit on their poker operations side, despite a business-wide, year-over-year revenue increase of 44.5% in the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Interest in OnGame began to increase after NYX acquired them in 2014 and announced their investment plans. Despite these plans, network traffic has remained low, leaving “the experience players nostalgic for the good, old days”.

As reported by Pokeroff, “of all the mergers and acquisitions that are planned by NYX, joining the Hive and OnGame may be the most important step towards the return of the former popularity of the network.”
