The brain child of Todd Anderson, Poker Night in America has been envisioned as a whole new viewing experience for poker audience, with a completely new, fresh approach to the game we all love so much. Although the show had its doubters (as there always are), the first season of the poker show, covered on us.888poker blog, which takes place at various different well-known casino venues throughout the US, featuring some of the most recognizable faces in the industry, has turned out to be a great success.

Sponsored by 888poker and aired by the CBS Sports Network, the show has picked up attention from an audience in the United States and other parts of the World as well. In fact, the first season turned out to be so popular that the CBS decided to extend the contract for two more seasons. With Season 2 well underway, we take a look back at Season 1, including the most memorable players and plays.

Golden Ace Awards

After Season One ran its course, with 29 episodes of exciting poker and insightful interviews and talks with the greatest names of poker like Doyle Brunson, the PNIA Golden Ace Awards ceremony was held. Picked by the public vote in different categories, here's how they stacked up.

Shaun Deeb received the award for the best overall hand. Since he was one of the most regular players of the season and probably played the most hands might have had something to do with this. The fact that he is also a great player certainly helped as well. Oh, and also his ability to hit quads just at the right time.

In the best bluff category, the award went to Tom Schneider. If you've been following the show regularly, you are probably aware that there's been a decent amount of bluffing going on, but Schneider was able to win over the fans and the Golden Ace Award.

Danielle Anderson, also well known as the "Dmoongirl" was proclaimed the best overall player; certainly a proud title against such admirable competition throughout the season.

You would probably never guess it, but the title of the best trash talker went to Gavin Smith. You can say what you will, but his comments and remarks during the play added a special flare to the whole thing. Entertaining showmanship we say!

Finally, Lauren Billings was recognized by the fans as the best newcomer.

Of course, these are only a few names that made the show great. It is hard to mention everybody who took the seats at the tables, but honourable mentions go to: Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow, Matt Glantz, Greg Merson, Eli Elezra and David Williams.

The Future and beyond

Season 2 of Poker Night in America has already started with a bang. Kicking off in style, with the "Ladies Night", it continues its trip around the States bringing some of the best around the same proverbial green felt (the one PNIA uses is red, as you must know).

We've already seen Phil Laak, Liv Boeree and Phil Hellmuth all at the same table. Add to that list Jennifer Tilly, Igor Kurganov and Antonio Esfandiari and it becomes clear that this show really aims to bring the best players and to create the best possible viewing experience.

The future certainly looks good for Poker Night in America and that translates into a happy future for all starving poker fans, always on the lookout for their next poker fix. I think I can speak for the majority when I say that we are hoping for at least five-six more seasons? Certainly CBS have shown their faith in the show, and we certainly welcome its longevity.
