The semi-final stage of PokerUpdate.com’s ‘Most Memorable TV Hand’ has been reached, and fans will this week vote to decide on the two finalists.

The fun and highly-popular ‘knock-out’ tournament has already seen the 32 initial ‘experts’ choices whittled down to just four videos, with the ‘King of Suckouts’ facing ‘High-Stakes Multi-way Bluff’, while ‘Quad Aces No Good’ will go up against ‘The Rollercoaster’ in a bid to reach the final, timed to coincide with the start of the WSOP November Nine final table.

PokerUpdate.com chose to use the NCAA basketball’s March Madness format for their competition, splitting the initial televised hands into the categories of most:

  • Funny
  • Exciting
  • Shocking
  • Impressive

As PokerUpdate.com spokesperson Robbie Strazynski explained before the event kicked off on October 1st:

We’ve designed our interactive bracket to be both mobile-friendly and full of social media sharing features. Every poker fan now has the power to make their opinions known far and wide, right at their fingertips. We are excited to see which hand will be voted in as the Most Memorable TV Poker Hand Ever!”

According to the tournament’s organisers:

The most unforgettable poker hands are set to compete against each other, including numerous classics from the World Series of Poker, as well as the European Poker Tour, World Poker Tour, high stakes cash games, and other legendary broadcasts."

So far we have seen the likes of the late Jack Ury’s ‘slowroll’ at the WSOP falling at the first hurdle to the ‘King of Suckouts’, and the demise of Connor Drinan’s ‘Aces Flush away $1million’ hand. Footage of the gut-wrenching ‘pocket aces v pocket aces’ loss to a runner-runner flush was a big ‘hit’ in all senses of the word the 2014 WSOP $1 million Big One for One Drop, but in PokerUpdate’s event it was out-voted by ‘Quad Aces no Good’.

As the event’s PR says:

For over 40 years, poker fans have witnessed history unfold on their screens. From action and drama to shocking, unforgettable moments, some televised poker hands are etched in our memories forever, and looking through the chosen videos is a fantastic reminder of just how great a game poker is in so many ways."

Strazynski explained the thinking behind the event:

To have our flagship PokerUpdate.com site earn a place alongside industry leaders would require putting together something truly special
something that would make everyone else in the industry look up from their work and say: 'Ooh! We've never seen anything like that before in poker!'.";

Voting for the semi-finals continues until Tuesday 27th October, so if you want to take part – and you really should; it’s the best ‘waste’ of an hour I’ve spent in ages – simply visit the official PokerUpdate.com competition page and select your favorite video in each matchup.

As Strazynski says:

We're positive that by the end of the competition, when the winning hand will have been crowned, the people will have spoken loudly and clearly.”
