Describing himself as a semi-professional poker player, this Hamburg native has a strong list of results given that he doesn’t play cards full-time. Although he’s been enjoying the game for well over twenty years, Jachtmann’s main focus is his company Jachtmann-Marketing which he is the CEO of.

Sponsored by PartyPoker, Jan’s biggest poker success was in 2012 when he earned himself a WSOP bracelet after winning the $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha event for $661,000. To get the victory, he had to beat a tough final table which included poker legend and mixed-game specialist Jason Mercier. In a tremendously sad turn of events, Jachtmann’s poker pride and joy was stolen in 2014 during a home robbery that happened in the late hours of Christmas eve. Even though the burglars stole more a five-figure some of cash from the home, Jan admitted that it was the bracelet being stolen that ‘hurts me the most . . . for me this was the worst Christmas of my life’. Unfortunately, the German businessman was never reunited with his prized possession despite offering a hefty reward for its return.

Earning himself the moniker ‘Mr Omaha’ for his clear penchant for this poker variant, Jachtmann’s success in PLO events has extended beyond his 2012 WSOP win. A year on from this monumental victory, he made the final table of the €1,500 WSOPE PLO event in Enghien-les-Bains. Although he ended up exiting in third, his deep run saw him finish directly ahead of Jason Mercier once again, as well as other tournament crushers in Daniel Kelly and Max Pescatori. In 2015, he won his first WPT title after taking down another Omaha event – this time at King’s Casino in Rozvadov. He has also featured on a number of televised Omaha cash games including German poker show Cash Kings.

Even though Jan does play online at PartyPoker under the name ‘jpjhamburg’, he admits that this is to fulfil contractual obligations more than an interest in the online world. He elaborated:

‘I must admit that technological process has passed me by. I’ve never used [poker] software . . . and I really don’t want to either. That’s the beauty of live poker. You have that one single table. You can see the people; you see the dynamic, the psychology’.

Jachtmann’s enthusiasm for the game has extended beyond playing it, for he established German poker magazine ‘Poker Blatt’ over a decade ago. In 2015, he stopped pursuing this business.
