How Chris Moneymaker Teaches Poker
Chris Moneymaker hosted “poker boot camps” around the United States where he taught all levels, from absolute beginners to professionals.
Jonathan Little was born in 1984 and is an author and professional poker from Pensacola, Florida. He currently divides his time between New York, Canada, and Europe.
Jonathan Little got his start in card games by playing Magic: the Gathering, like many other modern poker pros, and eventually began playing tournaments throughout the country. At one point, he was ranked 9th overall in the community, but he soon found that there was another, much more profitable, card game that he could turn his attention to.
Little began playing poker at the University of West Florida, where he was studying engineering and psychology. After a year of studying poker more than textbooks, however, he had built a bankroll of $35k and had a decision to make. Instead of working a full-time job fueling airplanes, studying, and making room for poker, he chose to quit his job, drop out of school, and become a professional poker player.
After starting at $.25/$.50 games, he eventually started playing cash games at the $15/$30 level. Since these were the highest stakes consistently running online, he began looking for a way to win more money. That is when he discovered single table Sit ‘n Go’s, where his talent truly shined.
He was soon one of the top players in the STT world, playing up to sixteen at a time. According to PocketFives, he has 435 online cashes totaling $1 million, with a top online prize of $317,328, making him one of the most consistent players in internet poker.
In 2006, at the age of 21, he moved to live tournaments, where he has earned over $6.2 million. The first major tournaments was on a Party Poker cruise after qualifying in a $1,000 satellite. In that same year, he played the PokerStars Sunday Million and came in 2nd, winning $90,000, his biggest win of the year.
Real success in live tournaments began in 2007. At the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure he came in 5th for $320,000 and won the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown for $1.1 million.
Since then, he has also won the WPT $10k Hold’em Championship for another $1.1 million, been runner-up in another for $738,00, and made four more WPT final tables in addition to 26 money finishes at the annual World Series of Poker, although he has yet to capture a bracelet.
In addition to his tournament play, he is one of the most respected sources of learning material on the internet. He began by teaching at SNGIcons.com, but then created his own training site, FloatTheTurn.com, and now has his own hand training app for Apple devices. He is the author of nine poker books, including “Excelling At No-Limit Hold’em,” “Secrets of Professional Tournament Poker,” and “Strategies for Beating Small Stakes Poker Cash Games.”
Little still plays online when he is outside of the United States and plays several tournaments across the world, although his focus is now on coaching and producing new training resources.
