He may have been named as the CEO of PKR in June of this year, but Neil Alexander has officially resigned from the UK-based online poker operator. No reason has been publicly aired for Mr Alexander’s sudden departure from the operator, but PKR has continued to struggle with falling player numbers during a time of general decline in the online poker world.

According to PokerScout, PKR currently has a seven day player average of 220 players, which is a strong decline since the start of the year. Although the operator has never attracted large numbers of players, its unique 3D animation settings has usually attracted a loyal group of players.

It is likely that getting those previously loyal players back onto the network was a top priority for Mr Alexander, who succeeded Malcolm Graham (who subsequently joined Gametech) as CEO. According to news reports, Chris Welch has been named CEO of PKR in the wake of Mr Alexander’s departure.

Mr Welch’s Linkedin page confirms that he has indeed been named to the position, as his most recent position states that he entered the role in August. A former group director of the poker division at Bwin.Party, Mr Welch’s most recent position was also with PKR as a senior brand and marketing consultant.

A change of CEO, especially someone who has been promoted internally, may help PKR in attracting more players to its network. However, it will be difficult to do this in the current climate of general decline in online poker, where even the largest online poker networks are struggling to maintain their player numbers.
