I was always wondering how awesome it would be if deck of cards could last a little longer without being scratched or torn apart. Sky Kly certainly surprised us all with the first version of the playing cards made of 100% carbon fiber strands woven into the fabric covered with resin. Even bigger surprise is the fact that an improved version of these cards is made of the same carbon fiber foundation but interlaced with Kevlar. This means that this deck could save your life, literally.

Sky Kly has announced its Kickstarter campaign to help them produce their unique and stylish cards on the large scale. According to the beforeitsnews.com, Sky Kly has raised $13,000 in the first twenty hours but their ultimate goal is to raise $35,000 through their campaign.

The Sky Kly’s cards weren't designed to be bulletproof, but they are nonetheless, because of the material used in manufacturing. Carbon fiber is made from the small strands of carbon (thinner than the human hair) that is woven into the fabric. When the heat bounds it together with plastic polymer, it is placed into a mold to create complex shapes or it could be laid flat to create the sheet.

Carbon fiber is strong and lightweight and it is often described as stronger than steel but lighter than aluminum. It has an ability to be formed into limitless shapes and because of that it has a wide range of applications from military, aerospace, to motor-sports. Kevlar is a super modern bulletproof material that does not melt and very low temperatures have no effect on the material either. Kevlar is often used with the carbon fiber to improve the flexibility, toughness and resistance.

I was completely blown away by the reception my first foray into playing cards received on Kickstarter, which was over a year ago. That campaign saw me introduce the stylish Carbon Fiber playing cards. Since then, I’ve been inundated with emails asking me when I’ll be making these cards again. With this fabulous conjunction the Sky Kly’s decks of cards are certainly cards that last for lifetime. The improved version is more flexible than the first one but both are covered into plastic that keeps the printed design safe from cracking.

You can order cards in different colors and designs and if you decide to buy this fascinating set, it will arrive to your address in stylish metal case. The popularity of Sky Kly’s cards started in January 2014 when they released their first version made of carbon fiber and this new, bulletproof version, will certainly increase their popularity, if for no other reason, than because of the cool factor.
