Ebony Kenney Misses Women’s All-Time Record Score, Banks $1.7 Million at Triton Cyprus

ACR pro Ebony Kenney has banked her biggest ever score in a poker tournament only days after beating her previous best. The American finished in fifth place in the $210,000 buy-in Coin Rivet Invitational and walked away with a cool $1,700,000.

Staring Down the Best

The Triton Super High Roller Series has become the premium live poker series on the planet over the last couple of years. It’s a who’s who of the elite in the game along with many other well-known faces from the community.
The Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Cyprus was no different.

Ebony Kenney started her campaign in the $25,000 No-Limit 8-Handed event and was probably more happy and excited just to be in such an event than she was expecting to be fighting for the top spots. But, come the sharp end, there she still was fighting it out with the likes of Patrik Antonius for life-changing money.

In the end she busted in fifth place and picked up a $240,500 score, considerably more than her previous best of $41,164.

After this career-best result, Kenney prepared to join the $210,000 buy-in Coin Rivet Invitational with ACR CEO Phil Nagy as his team pro. This 64-player event was split into 32 pros and 32 amateurs who played separately on Day 1 and merged on Day 2.

Nagy said:

“Ebony is a refreshing and unique personality who brings such joy and spirit to the table. Her passion and fearlessness make her competitive in any tournament, so I’m thrilled to give her a Super High Roller shot.”

Again, come the heavy end of the payouts it was Ebony Kenney who was still standing, this time in a field chockablock of star names with Fedor Holz, Dan “Jungleman” Cates, and Sam Grafton. This made her the first woman ever to make a final table in a prestigious Triton event.

In the end Kenney’s destiny was another fifth place but the $1,700,000 payday must have been beyond her wildest dreams and one hell of an achievement for a player squaring up to such competition for the first time for megabucks.

Narrow Miss

Kenney’s bust in the Coin Rivet Invitational came after her pocket jacks lost to the pocket nines of Karl Chappe-Gatien who spiked one of his two outs on the turn. This bad beat stopped her from winning the biggest ever prize in a live poker tournament by a female player.

Annette Obrestad, from Norway, still holds the current record of $2,013,733 from the WSOP Europe 2007. If that nine hadn’t come on the turn Kenney would have been in great shape to pick up the $2.1 million for fourth place, giving her the record and a possible shout of the title and a $5.5 million payday.
