Getting High in Vegas? New Casino Rule Might Keep You Off the Tables

The Nevada Gaming Commission voted unanimously last week to approve an amendment that prohibits casinos from allowing players to gamble while under the influence of drugs.

The new rule was added to the existing mandate that forbids casinos from permitting visibly intoxicated players to gamble, according to the LVRJ. The amendment was deemed necessary partly due to Nevada's legalization of recreational marijuana last year.

It's common knowledge that a fair amount of poker players have been known to smoke weed on a regular basis - some even during breaks of poker tournaments.

The new rule likely won't be enough to keep said players from getting high before entering casino poker rooms. In fact, some players believe that playing while stoned can improve their game.

"weed motivates me to grind," posted 'ARCANGELO' on 2+2. "however when i don't smoke my sessions are longer. i play more hands when not smoking, but i tilt WAAAAAY more. weed = antitilt"

"people actually play poker not high?" wondered 'greenweed11.'

"I know I'm a much better player when I'm stoned and tired coz I start not giving a **** and you have to not give a **** to be a really good player," said 'IMA.'

At the other end of the spectrum came a post from 'WCGRider':

"I don't smoke weed, and from my experience very, very few high stakes players do. There are some that do though, so I wouldn't say you cant smoke weed and be a high stakes poker player. I would say I think it has a negative effect on your ability to think critically."
