When it comes to tournament poker, overlays are the sweetest words a player can hear, and Global Pokerā€™s Online World Challenge (OWC) has seen $16,000 of them handed out in their innovative $weepsCash (SC$) in the first 2 weeks of play.

If you donā€™t know what an overlay is, basically itā€™s the difference between the guarantee and the actual amount paid by players in an event ā€“ so an overlay means youā€™re playing fewer opponents on your way to the big cash prizes ā€“ with SC$300,000 already paid out and 6 weeks of competition still to go at the ā€œfastest growing poker room in the world.ā€

What is $weeps Cash?

If ā€˜$weepsCashā€™ has you shaking your head in confusion, itā€™s the new currency used by Global Poker which allows you to win real cash prizes from the USA - their sweepstakes-method and PayPal transactions allowing players to purchase a unique virtual currency for their site. In addition to this players are given free $weeps Cash which they can also play with. And $weeps Cash wins can be legally cashed out in the US because they are free!

The weekly 'OWC SC$7,500 Guaranteed Sunday Gold Challenge' saw excellent value for players as it had more than SC$2,500 overlay last weekend - thatā€™s over one-third of the prize pool. If this sounds unusual, it really isnā€™t ā€“ the biggest sites in the world regularly have overlays, and even live events (including WPT and UKIPT) have seen huge overlays in the past.

$1,000,000 guaranteed Online World Challenge

The trick is, of course, to take advantage of them while they last ā€“ sooner or later players get wind of such ā€˜free moneyā€™ and then the overlays disappear! But for the time being, Global Poker has massive guarantees across a summer schedule of No Limit Holdā€™em and Omaha events across every buy-in - from freerolls up to $22, with re-buys, Turbos, Deep Stack and 6-max tournaments all available.

So far, the Daily Rebuy tournaments have been very popular with the SC$5.50 rebuy and the SC$222R1A both regularly boasting prize pools of over SC$5,000 while Global Poker's unique 'flops challenge' tournaments saw some 424 cash-game players enter last week alone, looking to take advantage of the SC$2,500 in added cash prizes. 'The Weekly 500 Flops Challenge' requires players to see 500 flops in SC$ ring games to enter instead of putting up a buy-in.

The Schedule

There are 18 tournaments running every weekday from 5pm until midnight, and for the weekends Global Poker will be ā€œstepping it up even furtherā€ - with a total of 32 tournaments on the schedule, starting at 1:30pm EST. The big headliner on Sunday, of course, is that $7,500 Guaranteed Sunday Gold Coin Challenge ā€“ perhaps next weekend being the last one with an overlay now that the word is out.

Hereā€™s how it works:

You can play with two currencies, Gold Coins and $weeps Cash.

  • When you buy Gold Coins we give you bonus $weeps Cash free of charge.
  • Gold Coins let you play for fun, but switch to $weeps Cash and you can play for real money.

Sounds great, doesn't it? Warning to players in the U.S - you are working with an Australian based company that profits off of a yet to be litigated "$weepstakes" model. Notice the conspicuous "$" Global Poker has hired numerous shills to bolster their online presence, but even a cursory online search will show the extent to which VGW holdings will go to NOT honor legitimate payouts. READ THE FINE PRINT!!! Global Poker has confiscated funds at their discretion (which is in their terms of service). You can have $50,000 dollars in $weepstakes cash...but absolutely 0 guarantee that it will be paid out. And if you want to dig deeper, read their financial prospectus. Shoot first, ask questions later when it comes to the actual legality of their business model. Heck, their entire business is AGAINST THE LAW IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY! So be forewarned, you are rolling the dice and can very well be left holding the bag with thousands of $weepstakes dollars and jack squat in your paypal account. But what do I know? I'm not getting paid for this promotion...must be an "angry gremlin". Read the rules CLOSELY....
