Las Vegas poker pro Huckleberry 'Huck' Seed has become the latest inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame. The 51-year-old Seed was selected for enshrinement by a vote of the PHOF’s living members after being named as one of 2020’s ten finalists earlier this month. In being elected, Seed becomes the 59th enshrinee of the PHOF.

Seed, a Montana native, is most noted as being the champion of the 1996 World Series of Poker Main Event. He has won three other WSOP bracelets, has been an elite-level cash-game player for decades, and he has amassed an impressive $7,649,864 in recorded tournament cashes.

Seed won by a significant margin in voting tallies that were released for the first time in Poker Hall of Fame history. 30 of the 31 living members voted, with each voter having ten separate votes to distribute among the ten finalists as they desired. The final totals were these:

  • Huckleberry Seed – 76 Votes
  • Matt Savage – 51 Votes
  • Isai Scheinberg – 45 Votes
  • Eli Elezra – 30 Votes
  • Antonio Esfandiari – 23 Votes
  • Lon McEachern and Norman Chad – 20 Votes
  • Ted Forrest – 20 Votes
  • Mike Matusow – 17 Votes
  • Patrik Antonius – 15 Votes
  • Chris Ferguson – 3 Votes

Seed said this upon learning of the honor:

β€œHearing the news that I am being inducted into the poker hall of fame this year brought back memories of my early poker days, walking into the Binions Horseshoe, about to start a poker session, admiring  all the poker hall of famers on the wall. It feels good to be included with all the poker legends that I once idolized and competed against over the years. Thank you everyone.”

In addition to his elite poker skills, Seed has brought his very athletic and competitive nature into the game in other ways. The 6’7” Seed was an all-state high-school basketball player in his native Montana, and he has repeatedly taken part in large prop bets typically requiring him to perform some unusual feet of athletic skill or endurance. The gamble-heavy Seed has won most of those prop bets, just as he’s been a lifetime winner at the tables.
