Liv Boeree Busts to Boyfriend Igor Kurganov as 2019 Main Event Kicks Off in Spectacular Fashion

Defending champion John Cynn took centre stage yesterday to deliver a ‘shuffle up and deal!’ command that set the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event in motion!

The first starting flight on the journey to poker fame and fortune drew in many players who have already reached that goal, former champs Chris Moneymaker and 2016 victor Qui Nguyen among them – as was James Camby Campbell, courtesy of one Phillip Hellmuth Jr!

The biggest story of the opening flight had to be the ‘love and loathing in Las Vegas’ that brought Liv Boeree and long-time partner Igor Kurganov to the same table…

It’s all fun and games until someone loses a stack, of course, and as the English rose fell, Igor’s chances of enforced celibacy hit epic proportions!

Boeree wasn’t the only one to hit the rails in the quest for the ultimate title in the game, David Williams literally floored by a horrendous turn card that sealed his exit…

Those who did manage to navigate the treacherous waters included Kelly Minkin, Stephen Chidwick, Erik Seidel, Alex Foxen and infamous ‘fofty incident’ amateur Randall Emmett.

With thousands more are expected today for day 1b, this year’s projected numbers are on course to challenge the record books…
