When it comes to poker players expanding their reach and skills into the wider world out there, PokerStars pro Liv Boeree is always up for a challenge, and this week saw her facing down 2500 other experts as she shared her thoughts on ‘probability and chance in life’ at the TEDx conference in Manchester.

Boeree’s latest adventure, however, had the English former EPT champion’s nerves jangling as the big day approached…

…right up to the moment she took the stage…

The TED-talks have become a massive global phenomenon, starting in 1984 as ‘a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages’, according to the organisers.

Boeree, of course, fits into almost every category: first-class honours degree in physics and astrophysics, charity co-founder with the REG foundation, and $3.6million in poker earnings after reality TV show ‘Ultimatepoker.com Showdown’ gave her a kick-start in the poker world over a decade ago.

Poker players, of course, know full well that to improve we have to cut out as much of the unclear thinking which fogs our decisions as we can, something Boeree focused on with her non-poker audience…

…and despite her initial fear at taking the stage, it seems that Liv’s talk went down a treat…
