Fans of Mike “the Mouth” Matusow are in for a treat with news that a fly-on-the-wall documentary is being made about his 2021 WSOP adventures... which includes his current run for a gold bracelet!

Matusow, who has also just been announced among the ten finalists for this year’s Poker Hall of Fame nomination, was spotted camera in hand as he railed Phil Hellmuth to the Poker Brat’s 16th gold bracelet this week.

In addition, he has been followed throughout his own WSOP journey this year by award-winning documentary director, Frank Zarrillo, who has been dumbstruck by Mike’s generosity.

“Mike’s an amazing, generous guy,” Zarrillo told Poker.org’s Fox Wallace. “He won’t let me pay for anything while we’re together. And his life is wild. This film is going to be great.”

Zarrillo isn’t a serious poker player himself, but his skills behind the camera saw his company, Big F Pictures, lift numerous accolades for his 2017 documentary offering, The Wrestler: A Q.T. Marshall Story.

That story followed Marshall’s last-ditch effort to make it in the WWE big-time, with age and injuries conspiring against him.

The set-up for a similar feature length documentary, or even a docuseries, about Matusow at this year’s World Series of Poker would have a similar feel to it.

Matusow is a legend in the game of poker, and will be one of the favourites to land the single nomination up for grabs at this year’s Poker Hall of Fame.

His career has been one of great success combined with controversy and failure, with 4 WSOP bracelets and almost $10million in tournament winnings balanced by drug and health problems.

At the time of writing, however, a so far relatively quiet WSOP at the tables seems to be taking a turn for the better, Mike running deep in the $10k Dealer’s Choice, with old friends and rivals Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu for company.

With close to $250k up top and a gold bracelet as well, it would be a dream scenario for both Matusow and Zarrillo if Mike were to bag the win.

“I’m gonna win this tournament just to show them. These day two buy-ins are crazy. They’ve ruined tournament poker with this shit,” Matusow exclaimed in typical “Mike the Mouth” fashion.

Even if he fails, there will still be an incredibly interesting movie in the works, with Mike telling reporters:

“It’s gonna be fantastic. Nobody has any idea the kind of crazy shit that happens to me.”

A name and release date for the documentary have yet to be decided, but you can be sure that we’ll let you know as soon as the information becomes available.
