Sundays have always been legendary for online tournament players and 888’s Super XL festival just added to that this weekend past, with 10 events and bucketloads of cash on offer – a chunk of it going to WSOPE champ - Adrian “ADRI_ATM” Mateos.

The number 2 on the all-time live tournament money winners list in Spain with $6.4million proved he was no slouch at the virtual game when he took down the $215 buy-in Mega Deep, which saw ‘a $191,800 prize pool up for grabs after 959 players jumped into the action’ according to 888.

The top prize of $34,524 wasn’t the biggest scoop of the day, however, as the $160 Tune Up event drew an incredible 1,454 players and 654 re-buys, smashing the $250K guarantee with an eventual $316,200 prize pool on the line.

Stepping up to the plate were a pair of Scandinavians, ForSvojt and SalsaFiesta, who absolutely lived up to the aggressive tag that Danish and Swedish players are noted for – battling heads-up for more than an hour until the A8 party hand of SalsaFiesta fell flat when ForSvojt paired his Q9 lady on the flop. $53,754 the reward but no place on the leaderboard for the Dane, showing just how tough the competition is.

In fact it’s a 1-2-3 for the Czech Republic just now in the race to the top spot come January’s end, when – as 888 rightly boast –

"2 tables will host the top 18 players of the series, who will battle it out for the chance to realize every poker player’s biggest dream: playing in the one and only WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas!"

Three was also the magic number for Argentina at the weekend, a country at the forefront of the 12-day online bonanza, with ‘ wes.c.addle’ walking off with the $42,502 top prize in the Whale, ‘gonzAAr’ topping a field of 1,054 players and 460 re-buys to win the $90 buy-in Sunday Challenge for $23,009 and then ‘_zufurduo_’ taking down the Turbo Mega Deep.

A wild weekend of action for sure, and it’s set to continue throughout the week – and I’ll be back with all the action from Tuesday’s Super XL High Roller – a $2100 buy-in cracker which aims to separate the men from the boys. Hopefully a woman will take it down just to make me look stupid!
