The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicked off this weekend and the first order of business was to see which of 2017’s Championship title winners could take down the Player of the Year award – and it was Massachusetts maestro Nick Petrangelo who took down the $100,000 winner-takes-all freeroll.

The loss of the Bahamas leg of the tour was one of those which attracted most criticism when PokerStars changed over to their ill-fated Championship and Festival versions of their popular events, but it’s clear that having reverted back to the original ‘Adventure’ has captured the imagination of players and fans alike…

Not that the 6 ‘freerollers’ really needed the $100k bonus, but Vladimir Troyanovskiy (Sochi), Bryn Kenney (Bahamas), Koray Aldemir (Barcelona), Daniel Dvoress (Monte Carlo), Chris Hunichen (Panama) and Petrangelo (Macau) had all earned their spots by topping the leaderboards at the respective stops in 2017 – and winning $17,000 packages for this year’s PCA.

While the rest of the world’s top players were making their way to Paradise Island from all corners of the globe, the top 6 from last year knew that if they could win the exalted SNG they’d be all set for another freeroll – the $100k buy-in Super High Roller just around the corner, set to open the festival proper.

In the end it was Petrangelo who came out on top and at the time of writing has somehow managed to parlay that $100k bonus into a day chip lead in the biggest buy-in tournament of the series – the final results of which we’ll bring you tomorrow, with Daniel Negreanu sitting second and looking to get his New Year Resolutions of to a flyer.

If $100k, or even the $10k Main Event, is too rich for your blood, the $1650 National is likely to be well-supported and it’s kicked off already…

Naturally, PokerTube will be bringing you a round-up of all the best of the action from the Bahamas…
