It’s that time again, when online grinders and amateur enthusiasts across the globe start to get their ‘game-face’ ready for the biggest Online Poker League in the world, with the 6th season of the OPL set to kick off on May 14th – eight of the best poker-rooms offering up a host of events and prizes in the 4-week long festival.

As those who have participated over the first 5 seasons will know, the OPL has been designed especially by poker players for poker players, and the 8 rooms running the tournaments have also been specially chosen to offer as wide a range as possible.

Which sites are hosting the OPL?

In brief, America’s Cardroom, AllInAsia, GUTS, TonyBet, Unibet, Party Poker, Betfair and William Hill are the big rooms offering you the chance to take down $25,000 in added prizes, as well as the tournament prizes themselves.

The OPL has spread its net far and wide to include US, Asian, European and pretty much a worldwide player pool to have a chance to take down the big money.

What are the buy-ins?

Varied, to say the least! Every cardroom starts the season by offering a free-roll to get everyone in the mood for some fun poker before the serious business of climbing the leaderboard starts.

Then we have a couple of rounds of $5 buy-ins, followed by the season finale $27-50 biggies, allowing you to make up for lost ground as well as share in the $1000 added per tournament.

Leaderboard? How does that work?

As with any league, climbing that ladder is the all-important goal for those who can play enough events. What is enough? Well, your top 10 results count, points from each event making for a thrilling leaderboard race in every season of the OPL so far.

The prizes for making the top spots are excellent, and last season for example the winner took away approximately $10,000 in cash and prizes... having only invested around $300 to play the tournaments, taking down the top spot in less than 4 weeks of play!

Season 6 has a huge bonus in store for the leaderboard victor, $3250 of goodies on top of their prize-winnings, which includes a €2000 Unibet Open tournament package

Prizes! Tell me what I can win!

Well, of course poker can be played for fun, but adding some serious money and extras into the mix makes things far more intriguing – and it’s not just your leaderboard standing which brings in the cash!

The freerolls are all $200 (or €200) added to get the ball rolling, after which the guarantees gradually rise each round of 8 events, up to the $1000 added for each of the final cycle of double-point, big buy-ins.

Ok, what do we have so far?

  • 8 cardrooms offering global participation
  • Buy-ins from zero to $27-50
  • Leaderboard with huge prizes
  • Individual tournaments with massive added value

What else do we need to know about the OPL?

Streaming!

No self-respecting poker league can do without it nowadays and the OPL has been streaming since the start with all events streamed by Spraggy on Twitch.Tv/Spraggy.

This new season, however, will see him being helped out by the new kid on the block, Stevie from Team Digging/Winning on his channel Twitch.Tv/Steviepoker. As ever, the OPL is looking to increase everything that keeps the league the most poker-player friendly – and biggest - in the world.

When does it kick off?

Sunday May 14th sees the opening salvos being fired in this season’s league, with William Hill, ACR and Unibet putting on their freerolls, followed by GUTS on the Monday, Betfair and AllinAsia on the Wednesday and TonyBet rounding off the first cycle on Thursday 18th May.

Where’s the schedule?

You can check out all the tournaments (and pretty much everything else you may want to know about the OPL) here… including the much-sought after leaderboard prizes here.

How can I join?

You need to sign up to poker rooms via OPL or OPL partners such as PokerVIP, PokerTube, HSDB and WeakTight and there’s no limit as to how many rooms you can play in.

If you already play at one of the sites you fancy playing an OPL event on, email your site to see if they can add you to the event. Otherwise, there are plenty of other rooms with great deals participating in the league.

Do I need a password for each tournament?

As is normal, the password will be released on the tournament page 48 hours before the event starts, and users must be logged into their OPL accounts to see it. Simple enough, but OPL has a Contact helpdesk if you get really stuck.

So, a new season and new chance to launch yourself into the biggest and best league there is – and you might even get lucky and have to face me, officially (probably) the worst player of seasons 3 and 4 as I mentioned last time round, and season 5 can now be added to that list too!
