He might not be as lightning-quick on his feet as Usain Bolt, but Patrik Antonius still has a fine set of running legs on him, as evidenced by his Instagram tales during EPT Monte Carlo – the highstakes star turning into the Flying Finn as he overdid the dinner break and had to leg it back to the final table in double-quick time.

For some reason Antonius decided to ‘eat out’ during a break in the $4.5million Main Event at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort and had to high-tail it back to see if he could turn his deep run into a historic victory, the cameraman in the clip deserving kudos for keeping up and keeping it steady along the way.

Victory wasn’t awaiting the Finnish legend, however, his shortstack finally falling into the hands of the winner, Paris driving school instructor Nicolas Dumont, who walked off with a life-changing €712,000 ($861,673) and a $30K Platinum Pass to the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure.

Antonius, who added the princely sum €139,050 ($168,280) to his $13million+ in career tournament earnings, still looked devastated in his post-exit interview, but thanked his supporters and promised to be back soon with another run at the biggest titles on offer.

Along with fellow old-school highroller Gus Hansen, Antonius’ Instagram offerings are an excellent insight into the day-to-day life of a major poker celebrity, the duo teaming up in Barcelona last month…

Thankfully the poker legends are now spending much more time at the tables, bringing some much-needed character back into the game rather than the novelty effect of athletes and comedians we’ve had to endure recently…

…although it would be a brave man who would bet on the Hansen/Antonius pairing against the celebrity duo of Usain Bolt and Kevin Hart in a real running race…
