It’s back and it’s bigger and better than ever, which is great seeing as how it’s the only Open Faced Chinese series on the planet! I’m talking about the TonyBet OFC Grand Prix of course, and the 2017 festival from Tony G’s site promises huge guarantees and a massive mix of games and tournaments to choose from.

With the online satellites already underway, TonyBet are expecting not only the regulars but anyone who has yet to ‘tick off OFC on your bucket list’ to take a look at what’s on offer – ‘a Grand Prix including 20 different events, with the buy-ins starting as low as €5 for those who just want to try out something new’, they say.

€40,000 in guarantees has a very sweet ring to it, but let’s say you’re one of the newbies to Open Faced Chinese poker? Who recommends this game over the more usual No Limit and PLO games?

Who plays OFC?

‘Rookie tested, Pro Approved,’ runs the Grand Prix byline and it’s no lie, with some of the biggest poker pro names on the planet having tried the exciting and somewhat different variant of the game, so the chance to take part in an entire festival is likely to draw record numbers.

Jason Mercier, his namesake and OFC world champion Isabelle Mercier and continuing the Canadian connection, Daniel Negreanu who asked, “How do you ever quit playing OFC once you start? Haven't figured that out just yet!” are all huge fans of the game.

Pineapple, 2-7 Pineapple, and Progressive are all in the schedule, with Freezeout, Turbo, and Re-buy tournaments all available, and buy-ins from €5 all the way up to the €150 Main Event and its €7500 guarantee. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves – when does the festival kick-off?

When does the Grand Prix start?

Sunday 23rd April – that’s this coming Sunday – witnesses the first event of the week-long extravaganza, a €10 unlimited rebuy Pineapple event with a €2K guarantee, which is a nice relaxing introduction to what is likely to be a slugfest if past events are anything to go by! The same evening will see a €50 buy-in with 1 re-buy and 1 add-on, and sandwiched in between is a Progressive event at €30 with 2 rebuys allowed.

Mid-week sees some big-buy-in, big guarantee Freezeouts, while the weekend promises to top the bill with both a Mini-Main Event and the Main Event proper, with almost €10K in guarantees between them – and if history repeats itself then both will be broken quite effortlessly.

How do I Join the Grand Prix?

The Grand Prix, of course, is limited to online players and if you haven’t tried it before you really need to take advantage of TonyBet’s special offer “a bonus to sweeten the deal for you,” as they explain.

“TonyBet Poker is offering a 100% up to €1,000 reload/first deposit bonus + a FREE ticket to the Event #1 with the bonus code GRANDPRIX10, with the minimum deposit requirement of €10. If you’re up to indulge in some OFC action, then good luck, and I’ll see you at the tables!”

You can’t say fairer than that, and with the ever-popular SCOOP festival running alongside it promises to be a week of poker madness for fans of every popular poker variant, and OFC can now be firmly included in that bracket thank to TonyBet.

Who are TonyBet?

Famous for their innovative approach to both the online and live OFC game, the site was started up in 2009 by Lithuanian poker bad-boy Antanas ‘Tony G’ Guoga and has run several hugely-popular festivals throughout the past few years, including their ‘RIOT weekends’ and ‘MTT Glory’ festivals - in addition to adding live events into their packed schedule, as well as mixed OFC/NoLimitHold’em tournaments.
