Next week sees Malta hosting the next stop on the Unibet 2016 tour at the brand new Olympic Casino, with entrants and qualifiers hoping to emulate the success of Dutchman Mateusz Moolhuizen who scooped €117,000 when Unibet last visited the island.

The Unibet Open tournament

Joining the hopefuls in the €1000 buy-in Main Event will be the lucky winner of the OPL 2 season – iwilltakeitall – whose victory assured him of a €3K package including buy-in, travel money and 5-star accommodation at the beautiful Intercontinental Hotel.

Since 2007, the Unibet Open has been synonymous with a great poker experience – not only running the best tournaments (with the Main Event regularly selling out above cap - this year set at 450 in Malta) but also taking advantage of the amazing locations from Prague to the Algarve.

As well as the qualifiers from the Unibet online satellites, Malta is looking forward to seeing if Essex based David Shallow can repeat his recent success at the Unibet Open London Main Event. Shallow pocketed £62,000 after defeating a field of 418 players, the largest event Unibet has ever hosted in the United Kingdom’s capital.

Unibet Poker

Unibet Poker are, of course, one of the best-known poker sites on the market, and being based out of Malta lets this event take on a special ‘home game’ feel. Their interests go beyond poker, with sports betting, online casino games, and the additional acquisition of Bingo.com rounding out an impressive gaming and gambling portfolio.

The venue

Poker players, journalists, fans and followers are all in for a treat as the Unibet Open Malta’s newest casino – 3000m2 of gaming excellence run by the Olympic Entertainment Group for the ELG - operators known for running their casinos with a high level of service and entertainment.

Located in the heart of St. Julian's, Olympic Casino Malta is Malta's largest and most modern casino, featuring 285 slots, two electronic roulette tables and 29 casino and poker tables, as well as a wide sports-betting area and the longest bar in Malta.

Grand Opening

The Grand Gala Opening night in February this year was an amazing affair with a New Orleans Carnival-themed evening of entertainment including illusionists, cartoonists, fire breathers and music.

Live demonstrations of 3D printing, sushi, one-on-one magic shows, juggling barmen and exotic face painting rounded off the Maltese ‘Mardi Gras’, with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat in attendance.

He congratulated the Eden Leisure Group on their brand–new casino adding that this investment is another vote of confidence in the Maltese economy which has now reached record levels.

PokerTube media in Malta

To cover all the excitement and stories from the Unibet Malta Open festival itself, the OPL will be sending out their own media team – headed by Rikard Aberg, a legendary PokerTube and PokerVIP interviewer who has questioned pretty much everyone in the poker world over the years.

So, expect fine journalism, interesting interviews, and a host of other poker-tales to emerge from the much-anticipated event – including the eventual winner’s take on the tournament! You can follow all the action and catch Unibet Open Livestreams from 24th-29th May on the PokerTube Facebook page.

Later in the year Unibet will visit Copenhagen (from 25-28 August) followed by the Grand Finals of the Unibet Tour 2016, with dates and venue still to be publicly announced.
