Victoria Coren-Mitchell Adjusts to 'Shot Clock' Poker
5 years ago07 May
Missing in action from the live poker tournament scene for almost a year, Victoria Coren-Mitchell made a triumphant return to the tables recently and had some adjustments to make after being away from the game for so long.
Her first re-introduction to live tournament poker was apparently confounded by a pocket pair of questionable strength. A slippery slope those pocket jacks!
The following day of action found Victoria looking at some better starting hands than those dreaded jacks. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees of scooping pots when dealt big pocket pairs.
Things started looking up for the quiz show host and two-time EPT winner near the end of Day 1 action. An appointment with Day 2 was on the horizon.
Day 2 rules were a bit different than Day 1. Patience may be a virtue, but it isn't when forced to play under a shot clock. Which proverb trumps the other: "Haste makes waste" or "He who hesitates is lost."
Victoria had some strong opinions regarding shot clock poker and dutifully expressed them via social media:
Uh oh. Those bloody pocket jacks made a return to Coren-Mitchell's hole cards. Seems the outcome wasn't any better than two days prior.
Staring at pocket bullets, Victoria got it in good and was a huge favorite. But the end result likely had her longing for the safety of the set of "Only Connect."
Buying in to another event, it seems that Victoria had a change of heart with regard to shot clock poker.
