Watching his favourite Blue Jays attempting to end a 23-year old play-off drought was made less stressful for one lucky Toronto fan, after being told he had won the first-ever progressive jackpoton Full Tilt’s ‘The Deal.’
Initially thinking he had only won a minor prize, the Ontarian – known only by his online moniker ‘dbecks23ex’ – continued to watch his team battle to break the longest play-off drought in North American professional sports history.
Only after the Jays had lost 3-2 to the Atlanta Braves, did the lucky winner realise that he had just picked up a whopping $116,935, which was 50% of The Deals jackpot.
"I was just watching baseball…and had my phone going. At first I thought I won $116, and thought it was kind of cool, then I realised it was the jackpot and got an email from Full Tilt,"
Told the Torontonian, who is a restaurateur by trade.
The Deal is the hugely popular centre-piece of Full Tilt’s new Players Club, a loyalty program launched last month to attract more recreational poker players to the site.
Punters are dealt 7 cards, two of which they discard. The best hand they can make from the remaining 5 cards can win a variety of prizes, from tournament tickets to cash prizes.
The new club has proved extremely popular, with “ a surge of unique players” with more than 480,000 hands of the mini-game being played.
The jewel in the crown is the progressive jackpot, which stood at a massive $233, 851 and was shared between the winner and some 7321 other players, who picked up $15.97 apiece from their 50% share of Tuesdayevening’s ‘Royal Flush’ jackpot.
After realising he had scooped the huge pot, the winner explained:
"I called my Dad and some friends – and told them I think I just won a jackpot on Full Tilt,’ he said. ‘I was like holy smokes! Anything competitive, I like. Whether it is horse-shoes or hockey or playing cards with friends, I get a kick out of competition."
