This year’s WCOOP has come to a conclusion and the Series did not fail to meet the expectations of numerous online grinders from around the world. It had everything – huge prize pools, all sorts of games offered and no lack of thrilling action.

Earlier today, the biggest online tournament of the year was completed, as $5,200 Main Event of World Championship of Online Poker found its winner in the player going under online handle ‘CrownUpGuy’, hailing from Austria. The lucky guy (we will presume) took home the bounty of $1.3 million dollars – an amount that no live tournament would be a shame of, and truly huge one in terms of online poker.

Huge Guarantee Busted, Matt Stout Bubbles

The Main Event had a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000,000 but even that number turned out to be a too low prediction, as when registration ended after five hours of play, total of 2,142 entrants added another $710,000 on top of the guarantee creating a first prize in excess of $1.8 million! Day 1 concluded with just one elimination away from the bubble, with 271 players scheduled to return yesterday to start again, but this time there would be no stopping before the winner was reached. It only took one hand to burst the bubble at the start of Day 2, and Matt ‘All_in_at420’ Stout fell the victim of a standard race that would send him out without anything to show for his efforts.

Star-Studded Field Reduced to Nine

The field of WCOOP Main Event was, as expected, populated with sharks of all varieties – top tournament players, highstakes cash game professionals and those in between all came for what is the biggest online tournament of the year. If you were going to play just one in the whole year, than this would be the one. Some of those who made a deep run but fell along the way include Matthias de Meulder, PokerStars Pros Jake Cody, Ryan Fair and Andre Akkari and many other famous or somewhat less famous names. One by one, they fell, and with ‘Viking8844’ leaving in 10th, the final table of nine was formed.

Isildur1 Can’t Master a Comeback, Six Way Deal Arranged

When the last table of the tournament was finally formed, it contained several well-known names, making it a real treat for the railbirds. Of the nine, ‘CrownUpGuy’ was leading the way, while Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom was at the opposite side of the spectrum, nursing a short stack. The Swede tried to find his way out of the jam, but when his shove was picked off by another highstakes regular Elior ‘Crazy Elior’ Sion, Blom’s suited connectors failed to improve against the Big Slick of Sion, and he was out in 9th, banking $107,100.

Next one to go was ‘MaltLiquor40’ who ran his pocket pair into a bigger pair of Yuri ‘theNERDguy’ Martins and that was all she wrote for the Canadian, who pocketed $160,650 for his truly valiant efforts in navigating this huge field. Sion claimed another bounty as he sent ‘Pokerl)eviL’ to the virtual rail after successfully breaking pocket Queens with pocket Tens. Bad beats happen and ‘Pokerl)eviL’ had to be satisfied with $214,200 this run brought him.

After this exit, players started negotiating a six-way deal, and although negotiations took some 45 minutes, they were able to agree on ICM numbers with some minor adjustments where top stacks squeezed some more money from those less fortunate. The deal guaranteed that the minimum amount taken home by a player would be $651K. $200,000 as well as WCOOP bracelet were still up for grabs. ‘19Dan86’, a long time member of PokerVIP, went out not long after the deal was reached after losing two crucial hands and surrendering all of his chips in exchange for $769,813.

Another big name at the final table was Faraz ‘The-Toilet 0’ Jaka, whose pocket Nines could not outrun pocket Tens of ‘theNERDguy’.

Finding the Winner

'CrownUpGuy’ then claimed the scalp of ‘Crazy Elior’ who got to pocket $708,251 for his efforts and then ‘neckbr4ke’ fell the victim of the Austrian as well, when his Big Slick held up against pocket Jacks of the German. ‘neckbr4ke’ claimed $651,430.

This left ‘CrownUpGuy’ and Yuri Martins of Brazil to fight it out for the title and those additional $200K. The Austrian started the match with sizeable advantage over the Brazilian and kept chipping up right from the start of the play.

Martins can find some comfort in the fact that this one was truly his to lose, as the final hand saw him put all his chips on the river with Fours Full of Tens only to find out that he ran into Quad Tens of ‘CrownUpGuy’. And that was it!

Yuri Martins earned total of $708,251 for this close call, while the overall winner ‘CrownUpGuy’ added $1,300,000 to his bankroll as well as WCOOP bracelet to his collection. With his victory, another World Championship of Online Poker comes to an end, showing once again why it is the most popular online poker series on the planet!
