The Online Poker League (OPL) is well underway, with this week seeing long time board leader, Dark Rose, losing his lead to competitor Kowal on the $10,000 leaderboard standings.

The competition is stiff, though, with HomerJ, Paprikash, and Iwilltakeitall following closely behind.

The OPL has brought together some of the biggest poker rooms to create the world’s biggest online league, and this week has seen the players continue to battle it out on the virtual felt.

With over a month of play still to go, and more than 25 tournaments to enter, the big win is still completely open. Remember, only a player's top 10 tournament ranks count for points, so the ultimate winner may not have even started yet.

Even a new player could quickly overcome a slow start and find themselves in the money, and there’s a lot of it to go round!

Saturday saw the William Hill $5.50 buy-in, and the winner – KomapWH –walked away with first prize and the added Monster Headphones. With 100 points added to his leaderboard run, he’s now in the top 50, and looking at an extra $50 if he holds onto his current place.

This won’t be easy, though, as the points and prizes are causing fierce competition across the board.

The Americas Card Room tournament held the same day - again a $5.50 event, this time with $250 cash added with US players eligible to play - saw joker131 scoop top prize and 100 leaderboard points, with DarkRose adding 5 points to his run for a 21st place finish.

Yesterday’s TigerGaming $5.50 event saw Kowal challenge for a top of the league position, leaping from outside the top10 to overall 3rd place after finishing second in the $100 cash-added tournament.

With every event being live-streamed on TwitchTV, the competition is causing quite a stir and new players are signing up every day through the numerous affiliate sites such as PokerTube.com, WeakTight.com and PokerVIP.com.

The variety of prizes on offer has also proved very attractive so far; apart from added cash events, the card-rooms have been offering hoverboards, Xboxes, top-of-the-range headphones and a host of other fun (and expensive!) prizes. It’s not often you’ll walk away with cash AND a new iPad for winning!

Add in the huge leaderboard prizes, the live Twitch streaming, and the buzzing social media forums and you can see why the OPL has really taken off.

Most recently we had a Unibet Poker $5.50, with a GoPro Video Camera as the added incentive, and the competition didn't disappoint. Paprikash topped this tournament and left the other frontrunners far in the dust.

There was also a FullTilt $5.50 with a $150 added tournament where Kowal managed to grab a very healthy helping of points with his second place finish.

For new and old players, the first season of the Online Poker League has not failed to disappoint. Keep your eyes peeled for future updates, and considered joining in on the fun. This is the people's poker league after all, its made for you.
