Girl Got Game: Poker Reality TV Show
8 years ago21 Dec
Following the real-life exploits of eight female professional poker players, the new series from California-based network VAMN-TV will aim to prove that:
Poker is a game of skill, and professionals work just as hard as anyone else with more traditional careers to create a good standard of living for themselves and their familiesā.
Creator Katrina Lim explained that the show plans to track the exploits of the eight girls as they attempt to turn $10,000 bankrolls into even more serious money in events from Macau to Las Vegas.
The poker heroines will compete both individually and as teams in challenges included as part of the show, with the winner receiving a $10k buy-in to the World Series of Poker Main Event next July.
The first season will feature an international line-up of Sofia Lƶvgren, Xuan Liu, Danielle ādmoongirlā Andersen, Kitty Kuo, Joanna Kwak, Lilou Agostini, Dutch-born Oanh Bui and Sabina Hiatullah āwith cameo appearances expected from a number of the worldās top pros, although their names are as yet undisclosed. (Fingers crossed for Liv Boree!)
Kitty Kuo, the Taiwanese star whose real name is Hui Chien-Kuo, has been perhaps the most successful of the participants so far, winning close to $1million in live tournament play ā and her Twitter-feed will likely keep everyone amused, if not necessarily informed.

āThis is a great platform for us to show that poker is not only the ultimate mental game, but also an equal opportunity gameā said Sofia Lƶvgren, the Swedish poker pro with movie-star looks who is also an ambassador for 888poker.com."
She added, āWe want to show the amazing possibilities that poker has given us. Hopefully, we may encourage more women to join us in this male dominated profession.ā
Danielle ādmoongirlā Andersen, who was one of the subjects in the excellent poker documentary āBetRaiseFoldā, will also participate. Andersen found her life turned upside down when Black Friday hit in 2011, causing her rise in the online game to come to an abrupt halt.
āGirl Got Gameā creator Lim stated, āPoker pros deserve respect in their line of work because it not only takes talent, but a ton of resilience, intelligence, passion and motivation: female empowerment at its best,ā adding āIām also excited to show my friends collaborating together, proving teamwork while still having fun, will always be paramount.ā
The best two performing players by the end of the first season in Vegas will be invited to return for a second season, with a third woman also returning based on an audience vote ā a typical reality TV device.
With the show expected to air in April of 2016, the eight women will follow it up by participating in a Celebrity Charity poker tournament in LA in May, with their winnings going to the charity of their choice.
