Poker Player Steals Expensive Dresses to Make Up for Losses

One of the unfortunate realities in the world of poker is that, sometimes, a player can lose money.

If you’re an amateur player, you may lose a couple of hundred dollars in a cash game while some major professional poker players have been prone to losing six figures worth of cash in one sitting.

Usually players just take it on the chin, try to learn from it as best they can and try to ensure those big losses never happen again.

Vladimir Ivljanin did not just do those things, however.

The 34-year-old Serbian male lost an undisclosed sum on money playing poker while on a recent holiday to Malta.

Seemingly scared of his wife’s possible negative reaction to his losses, Ivljanin sought to reverse those feelings by stealing three dresses worth over €10,000 (around US$11,235) from a nearby fashion outlet in the town of St. Julians.

However, one thing Ivljanin forgot to do when he stole the dresses was look at the price tag. When he found out exactly how much the dresses were worth, Ivljanin had a change of heart and decided to go back to the store to give them back.

Maltese police searched Ivljanin’s hotel room, where they failed to discover any suspicious items, which supported the likelihood that the theft of the dresses was a spontaneous act.

This led the magistrate in the court which dealt with the matter to give Ivljanin a 16-month prison sentence, which was suspended for three years.

It will be highly unlikely the unfortunate player will be stealing any more dresses in that time.

Let this be a lesson to those hitched poker players out there – If your significant other isn’t cool with you losing all your cash at the poker table, just stay away; it’s usually not worth the hassle.
